Oh, yeah, that was big in Milan when I was there (and no doubt still is).  One of the guys at the magazine was from Naples, and he took a lot of the kind of ribbing that you grit your teeth and bear because you have to work with your tormenters every day.  In fact, because he was from a posh family, he often took part in the bashing, as long as it was directed at the right class.

I watched the first 3 Mighty Boosh episodes tonight. I'm feeling like the only one of my friends who just found it mildly funny. Same thing when I watched Flight of the Conchords - I end up giving the characters obligatory/courtesy laughs because there is an indie bent to the whole thing and they look and dress like people I'd hang out with. After a couple episodes, though, I realize the jokes and quirkiness just feel strained. I don't know what wrong with me. Does it change or get better after the first few episodes?

Not really. The special fx get a little better (while remaining very lo-fi), but the tone remains pretty consistent.

It's definitely not for everyone. If you want to try something a lot different with one half of the Boosh, try the show "Nathan Barley". Julian Barratt is brilliant in it.

edit: Now that I think of it, Noel Fielding pops up once in a while in that show as well.

I just finished season 1, and I loved it. But you guys are right about The Spirit of Jazz. I don't know who was more uncomfortable, Howard or me. Maybe Howard, just slightly.

I feel like the British wouldn't say "I'm not a racist, but...", they'd just say everything after the "but...".

I am in the middle of season one and very much enjoying it. Favorite fake name so far?

Great show.  The British know funny.  Also check out The Jam, The Brass eye, and any show starring Steve Coogan ( if you haven't already).
