Bobo, that made me cry. Stupid people. Poor cat. Why the hell didn't someone take him in? Where was Andy, damn it? For that matter, where was I? Sounds like all he wanted was to be able to move inside. A snip, a little medical care, and he'd have been the best cat in the world. Bet he wouldn't have missed his balls at all.
By the way, purring and suckling release endorphins, so part of his behavior almost certainly had to do with pain management. That doesn't mean he wasn't also grateful and happy that someone was being kind to him.
