I was actually pretty impressed with Shaq's fieldwork among the Piraha people, but in the end I think his case against Chomskyan universal grammar is exaggerated.
Weirdly, I'm sort of involved in another internet debate about a Brooklyn-bashing article in this month's American Scholar, by Melvin Jules Bukiet, mostly because he's repeating what are on the horizon as the new set of Brooklyn cliches, and he's mostly just shooting fish in a barrel. Plus, he goes after Dave Eggers, who might not be the best writer around, but he's still a decent enough guy. Enough with the cheap shots already.
