Even though neither  she nor The View deserve the time of day, I just can't believe Sherri Shepard is paid to be on television. Possibly the dumbest woman I've ever seen. She makes Elisabeth Hasselback look smart. She makes me look forward to the moments when Whoopi Goldberg speaks. She is god awful, and when I think about how many people tune in every day to watch her make yet another empty-headed comment, I shudder.

First entry in my hate pit, Jeanne Moos. I hate her fucking voice, the stupid puns and all the moronic non-stories she reports on.

Minnesota alone is responsible for a huge number of awesome underground bands...

Can't really understate the depth of the punk tradition in Minneapolis.  One of that city's strengths/flaws is how this provides it with a sort of resilience against the trends that come and go elsewhere.  A million Grant Hart solo acoustic albums, Starbucks sipping Jayhawks fans or Rhymesayers MCs simply can't seem to shake the element of crust that underlies it all.  The Jayhawks (for example) are probably friends with more anarcho-punks than most of us are, but I'm sure their fan base is largely oblivious to that fact.

Funny thing is, you'd never readily guess it as a visitor to Minneapolis, which seems to all appearances to be a very clean, prosperous, new and beautiful city ~ that there is a distinct form of nihilism beneath the surface there that seems very particular to that place and has made for some really good music over the years, sometimes in somewhat unassuming ways.

my hate pit is populated with the FOT, because you're all so common.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Ugh, please don't get me started on Julie.

No, you know what? She fired the first shot, and now the FOT has to come down on her. HARD. I wasn't going to publicly say anything negative about Julie, but this unprovoked attack makes everything fair game.

Julie, over the past few weeks, has become my Most Hated Caller. It seems every time she calls in, she has to make some assholish (Trademarked!) comment, and it rubs me the wrong way. First she told PFT his MySpace page was "stupid". Then there was the whole Heath Ledger conversation, which honestly made my skin crawl. Now, she puts down the entire FOT community because she finds them "common". Well, Julie, you're not any more interesting/clever just because you don't filter yourself. If anything, it's a negative.

I can honestly say that, while I've been listening to the Best Show, I have never heard a more presumptuous and unlikable caller. And Tom takes her calls every week! Needless to say, Julie has secured herself a spot in my Hate Pit. I honestly feel terrible that I'm venting like this, but I listened to that segment in the podcast just a few minutes ago, and I couldn't contain it anymore.

Anyways, to make things a little more positive, this guy just earned a place in my Like/Love Pit:

It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College, that's where I caught her eye.
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said in that case I'll have a rum and coke-cola.
She said fine and in thirty seconds time she said, I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you.
Well what else could I do - I said I'll see what I can do.
I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere, so it started there.
I said pretend you've got no money, she just laughed and said oh you're so funny.
I said yeah? Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here.
Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people,
you want to sleep with common people like me.
But she didn't understand, she just smiled and held my hand.
Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job.
Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school.
But still you'll never get it right
'cos when you're laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall
If you call your Dad he could stop it all.
You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw
Because there's nothing else to do.
Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you thru'
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that poor is cool.
I want to live with common people, I want to live with common people [etc..]
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Wow!  I actually put Julie from Cincinnati down on this thread TWICE and deleted it both times (didn't want to be too negative).  The first time I withdrew was because I was following my own rule that a FOT should never throw another FOT in a hate pit.  Then I realized she wasn't a FOT, that she didn't like the FOT, and I put her on again.  Then I withdrew again because I didn't want to start a FOTwah without support.  And she's a real person and I don't really want to hurt real peoples' feelings.  Mickey Dolenz isn't really a real person in my opinion.  And neither is Shepard Fairey (that motherfucker!)

The FOT community is far from common. In fact, you're as uncommon as they come. It's like you guys have all of the qualities of pretentiousness I like without being jerks about it.  ;D

I do believe it's possible to reform this phone-criminal.
I'm sure Tom believes so as well, as he is giving her a chance, much in the vein of Larry the Perv, The Leader, early Petey, and M.C. Steinberg.  Some of these cases are more successful than others, as we all know.

I like watching the View because I like to get a woman's perspective on things. The title is clever, too, cuz it's like "the view", like, a woman's view on stuff. Kind of like how Tom gives his view on things, in a manly way. The shows are pretty similar I guess:

a) gender-specific viewpoints, often yelled
b) c-list celebrity guests
c) devoted fans

I didn't know they hired some crazy lady though!
