Oh great. It's great that somebody finally thought to do that. The mysterious world of strippers and strip clubs has gone unexamined for far too long. Except, you know, by movies, books, magazines, and TV shows. Other than that, though, it's about time that someone had the courage to blow the lid off that whole scene.
You know what sticks in my craw about that? The fact that you know that she was just doing it as a lark with the intention of writing about it later, just as a tourist to give herself an angle. It makes me think of the "Super Size Me" guy, or the woman who wrote that "Nickle and Dimed" book where she lived on the minimum wage for a year or whatever. All these new writers who build their careers on junk like that, where they just dip their toe into something and then cash in by coming up with the most obvious conclusions about it. (Suprise! Fast food is unhealthy! Being poor is hard! Strippers are people too! Yawn.)
Seriously, though, I can't wait for "Candy Girl: The Movie" next year. If only to see someone stripper-dancing to a Belle and Sebastian song.
