It wasn't even a real gay movie! It was written by a seventy year old heterosexual woman for The New Yorker originally. The adaptation was directed by Ang Lee, also hetero. The plot revolves around closeted gay rednecks, a subject matter 98% of the Westboro congregation is familiar with.

It's no Lonesome Cowboys, but I really liked it. It's a great love story.

More proof supporting my Scientologists-not-more-insane-than-crazy-christians theory.

Mmmm I still think they're more insane. But they're just a little bit more civilized and HUMAN than these people, who are going in my uber-hate pit. (bet you didn't even know I had one, didja? Well, I do. And they're in it.)

Maybe they're just actors playing homophobes.

I almost prefer batshit hatemongers like the Westboro Baptist types to the mainstream "hate the sin, love the sinner" fundies who mask the same kind of bigotry in more civil, politically correct discourse.  Until, of course, they start shooting people.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Apparently, he was to star in the new Terry Gilliam movie--"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" They just shut all production down.

Man, I feel like this guy was really on his way to becoming something fantastic. It's such a bummer. And poor Terry Gilliam. They keep shutting his movies down.

I'm devastated, walking around in a daze. I'm trying to hold it together and carry on because I think that's what he would have wanted.

In the interests of full FOT disclosure, I am a fully-vested Presbyterian. I have no interest in proselytizing, but if you're going to blanket hate people who attend church regularly, I guess I'm in your hate pit.

My boyfriend's episcopalian. I don't think anyone was getting on anyone else for being religious or even just observant. It's the crazies we're talkin about...

I don't blanket hate religious folks. I may dislike religious folks who interpret every verse and chapter of the Bible as literally true and directly from the mouth of God, but they're the people who think I'm condemned to hell. The pro-choice half-Jew Unitarian Universalist queer feminist OPTIMIST in me would like to believe these people are in the minority of American Christians, but I have a feeling that's not the case. Not everyone can be Tammy Faye.

Also, we're being generous if we're actually calling the Westboro group a church. There aren't more than 100 members in that organization, and half of them are directly related to the Phelps freaks. I think we can all agree that they're worthy of our scorn.

Queer feminist optimists are my favorite kind of people!!! But you have to be careful; you're one short additional qualifier away from being declared officially "quirky".
