Worst Call (period): Can't really think of the worst. Excluding the obvious couple of candidates.

The worst call is the call not made.  :'(

Two would-be callers diverged in approach, and I—
I took the one less traveled by;
I made the call,
And that has made all the difference.

Childhood Achievement Award:

Nominees:

Petey
August
Sathingt(r)on
Anti-Hasu Kid/Hasu Kid (lump them together, why not?)
The Teenage Girls (The three that hosted that one time and pretty much disappeared after that)
Mac (uh, maybe not)

Some of these nominees had a pretty brief run, so maybe they shouldn't get nominated.

I've always wondered about this.  Petey obviously defeats everyone, though.

in addition to best GOMP id like to see an award for most GOMPed.

excluding obvious offenders like james I'd like to see which regular caller has been GOMPed most this year.

My personal protege, Larry the Perv, would have to be considered for this award.

I actually think that James should not win worst caller of the year. Giving him any recognition only encourages him to call up. Let's all agree he's awful and misguided and place him in the ignore catagory.

Though it didn't occurr in 2007, the guy who called up and thought WFMU was a "homo channel," was still the worst.

Are the nominations limited to 2007?

I was wondering this too. I think they should be, but if they weren't, I'd have to nominate the epic Billy Crystal Jazzman Hurricane Katrina Relief Playback/Rant is the best thing of all time ever.

Also, Stevie Blue gets the nomination for the Still Creepy in '07 Award for his great call about pestering Martina McBride's husband by pretending to be Reba McIntire's husband, which made Hesh and James seem bush league.

Also, that GOMP that somebody mentioned from where Tom was back from the kidney stone gets my vote for #1 GOMP.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

2007 Awesomeness Award:

Tom v. Jesse Thorn/Jordan Norris, 7/10/07

Tom v. Henry "Steamrollin'" Owings, 9/11/07

"Protective goggles? You're throwing a Wiffle ball around, you're worried about losin' an eye? Really?" -- Tom, questioning the necessity of Henry Owings's protective Whirlyball gear

"I'd put Ringo Starr. His recorded output in that era. Little more tuneful." -- Tom, offering a replacement for The Jesus Lizard as Best Band on Earth circa 1989-1993

Perhaps the finest moment of 2007:

Tom puts Henry on the clock. Henry says he's been reluctant to call the last few weeks because Tom seemed a bit on edge, but he still wants to provide a wrap-up of the hotly-anticipated 8/8/07 Team Chunklet vs. Team Pharmacists Whirlyball match. Henry tells Tom that Ted will need his help. Alas, Team Chunklet remains undefeated. The buzzer sounds, and Tom resets the clock so he can hear another 30 seconds of Whirlyball talk. Henry is thrilled with the time extension and promptly starts his usual steamrolling routine, apparently unaware that he was having a live radio conversation instead of delivering a monologue. In the past, Tom tried to remain calm during these installments of The Henry Owings Interruption, but not tonight. The Kid reached the breaking point. He screams at Henry for talking over him. Henry seems a bit taken aback by the sheer force of Tom's admonition, and he apologizes for his rudeness.

Best Sing-a-long:
  - when the mother sang along with Tom to "Kids! What's the matter with kids to-dayyy?" (when was this?)

The performance of Kids definitely deserves some Best Performance By Group Or Duo type of award. One of my favorite moments of the show this year.

Will there be a moment of silence for all the people turned into ghosts this year?

This might also serve as a reminder of some of the other passings this year, like Power-Pop Pop Pop, WFMU’s copy of Ram and that dude Philly Boy Roy killed.

If best Best Show show of 2007 is a possible category, I think I’d nominate 1/2/07, featuring a Spike call, Tom and Roy discussing that computer simulation that got everybody talking, Roy’s first round victory over Gary Heidnik in Channel 10’s “Battle of the Philadelphians”, the in-depth discussion of Paul F. Tompkins’ tutelage under comedy genius Matt Albie, match fighting, the arrival of the sound effects board, Tom’s crusade for Coke Blãk and Planet GG.

Regarding best rants of the past year, the various mentions of The Bronx Is Burning should be in consideration. Which episode had Tom giving away the ending, with Reggie Jackson capturing Son of Sam via home run?

Looking for some best GOMP/Good Day Sir contenders, I came across this via Omar’s recap of the 10/9/07 show and really need to re-listen to it:
Quote
While catching up on the recent podcasts, John heard Tom express disinterest in what Pugsley Adams was up to these days. He doesn't have any Pugsley news, but he did grow up with the kid who played him in the early-1990s film adaptations. Tom considers these the "cool" versions ("This isn't your father's Addam's Family!") compared to television serial featuring Ken Weatherwax in the Pugsley role. John calls his generation's Pugsley a punk, so Tom bids him good day before he can further besmirch the good name of young Jimmy Workman.
This may be the year I will disappear.

Another classic, which occurred in the same show as the Tom vs. Jesse Thorn segment mentioned above.  A time-capsule installment.

Has there been official confirmation that people who are barged are, in fact, dead?

I may be wrong, but I think Tom did that riff at the end of his conversation with Philly Boy Roy on 7/31/07.  Sadly, my recap of that call has been truncated by either a technical glitch or a James-ing.  This has happened to at least 4 or 5 2007 recaps, although I hope to be able to restore these to their original condition with the aid of archive.org captures.

I'd like to think the likes of PPPP, Jeff Cooper, and Edgar Ploppleton are off in some remote crevice of Newbridge plotting their revenge ...

The Gorch survived a barging, though he is the Gorch.
