I applaud you, Tom.  So few people are even recognizing that music acts are crossing picket lines because they're so focused on the heavy hitting ~*actors*~ and whether or not they will cross a line.  Well done!

These musicians aren't scabs -- they're not writing for these shows.  You can deride actors for crossing the picket line, because they're part of the same community as the writers and should show support for them.

Musicians are in the same boat as the wardrobe people.  They could make an ethical choice to support the writers, and not work on these shows, but its not necessarily fair to have that expectation of them, especially given how it could affect their livelihoods.  A lot of times appearing on one of these talk shows can be a big break for a band, and I think you undersell the importance it can have on their career.

Musicians are in the same boat as the wardrobe people.

No, they're not.  Wardrobe people make their living working on these shows; they can't pay their bills otherwise.  Do you know of any band or artist that pays their rent by appearing on talk shows?  If you think the music booker for Conan is going to hold a grudge and not book these bands who turned the show down after the strike ends, I think you're wrong.  You also say that musicians aren't in the same community as these actors that appear on these shows, but I say that they're all out there, entertaining the people, part of that business called show.  And aren't most bands writers themselves?  Songwriting is different, sure, but it's the same ballpark as far as I'm concerned.  I'm with Tom on this one.

Nicely stated, Jouster. If the show is the container, music and writing are two types of content. 

And really, if you are watching a show that is off-the-charts terrible, and then you see this band, the associative benefit for that band is non-existent.
