Amy Winehouse - "Rehab"

Oh yeah. Any other FOTs in the pro-Amy Winehouse camp? I think she kills it, and that it's good to see the Dap Kings reaping some dough-ski as a result (one of their horn players is a Boston ex-pat/former member of the obscure band Boy's Life who shared a 7" with The Outlets). I think Amy Winehouse & The Dap Kings and Holly Golightly (with Dan Melchoir in tow) would be the ultimate retro-but-right tour. My opinion on this set off a bunch of nasty back-and-forth on a WMBR discussion list. I stand by my stated position.

I am. I told Matty Fluxblog about it at the record fair, and he posted it on his blog, so that makes another FOT in the pro-Winehouse camp.

I posted "Me & Mr. Jones" in the 12/5/06 recap:

And by "it," I mean the incredibly awesome song "Rehab." He was already familiar with Amy Winehouse, thanks to her awesome summer jam "Fuck Me Pumps."

Postscript, as internet etiquette dictates I should edit this comment in lieu of composing a new one: I am currently obsessed with "Grudge Fuck," a song recorded by the Pernice Brothers. This song was originally recorded by the Scud Mountain Boys song, the (alt? trad? don't know, never heard 'em) country group Joe Pernice was in before he crossed over to pop perfection. I'll confess to being a little curious. I want to hear it, but I can't imagine it's better than the version recorded last year. It has a great melody, and Joe Pernice would give anything to make it with you just one more time.

I would.

Screw internet etiquette. Okay, so I finally got around to listening to Scud Mountain Boys, and they were pretty great! I was right, though, the pop incarnation of "Grudge Fuck" is so much better. It's earnest and a little saccharine, despite its title, and I fucking love it.

ALSO. I am listening to Peter Bjorn and John. I can't believe I've never heard these guys before. I love Scan-pop. "Young Folks" is a great single. More songs should have whistling solos! And yes, I also like the new Andrew Bird album, and not just because of the whistling. I'll freely admit, I'm in the pro-whistling camp. I can't whistle, though. So sad. I'll just snap my fingers instead.

I do love the Garry Shandling Show theme song, specifically for the whistling.

I am a fan. I love 'Addicted'. The last line always gets me, for the people who don't know, the song is about pot and how much she loves smoking. One of the lines at the end of the song is "I'd rather have myself smoke my homegrown, Its got me addicted does more than any dick did." Hillarious.
