Silverdocs sounds very interesting. I'll definitely submit it there, thanks for the tip, Chris. If we get the Swedish Film Institute to support our submission it's even better (they are one of our backers, after all). Won't guarantee anything, obviously, but it won't hurt.

When will this premiere on Swedish television?  Will it be on a public TV channel?  Are they going to edit it?

Just curious.

The preliminary date for the TV premiere is somewhere in April-May. It will air on public television, the state-owned SVT (which is comparable to BBC in reach and domestic importance), as part of their (prestigious, if I may say so myself) series K Special, which features documentaries about arts & culture.

But right now we're actually talking to distributors about possibly getting it into theatres. In that case it'll have a brief, limited theatrical run, but it will postpone the TV premiere to September or something like that. More screenings at festivals will obviously also affect the air date.

The "theatrical" version is 72 minutes, but we need to cut it down to a "TV hour", ie 55 mins, before it airs. We will do the edit, SVT does not have the mandate to edit it in any way.

Come on, Jason

Holy god you guys gotta see this thing.
Martin, I know I'm your buddy so this might seem like friendly lip-service, but you made a truly outstanding movie, and I am in awe of you.

Wow.

Any ETA on when regular, North American slobs might see this? Is it doing a festival circuit?

It is, in the sense that I'm sending it out to potential festivals as much as I'm able to (and can afford; some of them charge a crazy amount just for submitting - Globians in Berlin wants like $350, for example). But it's not "doing the circuit" in the same way as a film with proper studio/distributor backup does. It's pretty difficult to navigate through the sea of festivals, and I'll gladly accept recommendations for interesting fests out there (must accept feature-length international documentary submissions).

So far I have sent out a couple of screeners to specific folks/FOT, but there will come a time when a proper DVD is made. Then I will be able to send out copies to anyone who wants one.

Dorvid: thanks again.

To my surprise, it doesn't seem too late to submit a film for the 2009 Montreal World Film Festival. They have a "Documentaries of the World" program. Entry fee is $100 CAD.

Registration and regulations:

And if it's accepted, I'll be there to see it!

Fascinating news etc.

We got an airdate for the TV screening - September 2nd. The film will be shown on one of the two major SVT channels, which is the equivalent of BBC (state-funded public service television), and will probably also be streamed through their website for a month (sans English subs, though). We'll be trying to drum up some more domestic media attention for it when it happens. Unfortunately we need to edit the sucker down to a lean 58 mins to fit in a "TV hour". It's a drag but whatever.

Also, the same week I'm taking the film to a small Swedish film festival, which looks pretty sweet - nothing fancy but at least I'll get to show it to a crowd, which is always best. (Unfortunately this means I have to cancel my vacation to France, as I was planning on going that week.)

Also also, we're having a screening of it at the Cinematheque in Stockholm by the end of September - first and probably only theatrical screening in Stockholm. Very excited about that.

HEY TORONTO!

Attention people of Toronto - the new feature film from my partner-in-crime Jesper Ganslandt, "Apan" ("The Ape"), will have its world premiere at TIFF in September. It will be screened in the Vanguard section. Jesper will be there - walk up to him and freak him out say hi.
