HEY TORONTO!

Attention people of Toronto - the new feature film from my partner-in-crime Jesper Ganslandt, "Apan" ("The Ape"), will have its world premiere at TIFF in September. It will be screened in the Vanguard section. Jesper will be there - walk up to him and freak him out say hi.

If you're attending TIFF, make sure you see APAN / THE APE. Consider this an official endorsement. Watched it the other day - pretty goddamn fantastic. Very intense (in a good way), very Dardennes.

Exciting weekend coming up.

Today is the big TV premiere. At 8 pm this evening our national broadcasting corporation SVT will air the documentary, with two reruns planned for the next couple of days, plus an extended run via their online service. So prime time on one of their main channels, which is a big deal. Although: it's Friday night, and I don't expect too many people parking themselves in front of the TV to watch a depressing documentary about a failed movie, prime time or not.

Saturday and Sunday I'm hopping on the train bound for the Jönköping Film Festival, in the middle of Sweden, to screen the theatrical cut of the documentary to hopefully some people. There's a planned Q&A afterwards but who knows how many people will show up.

Also: looks like the DVD will feature some fun stuff. Still planning it, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Exciting! I hope a lot of people tune in.

You did a documentary?  Why haven't you mentioned it?

Sorry.

No, no, I really was kidding.  I think it's pretty amazing the number of documentarians, musicians, graphic artists, writers, playwrights, and so on there are among the FOT.  I would definitely watch "Martin from Sweden"'s documentary.

It's cool that all this comes out of a radio show.

BUMP

Hey guys. Remember my documentary, The Film I'm No Longer Talking About? Maybe you're still sick of it from when I went on and on about it over two years ago? Well, let's talk about it some more. There's finally a DVD of this thing, after over a year of delays, technical difficulties, trouble finding the right manufacturer, trouble finding enough money in my wallet to pay for it, etc. We're distributing it ourselves (meaning, essentially, that my living room is now filled with DVDs). Keeping it simple. Someone orders a copy, I go to the post office. Supply is limited, as is most likely demand. But! We are very proud of the DVD. It's the real deal -- no home-made, ugly DVD-R business. And I'm still very proud of the film itself.

The cover features Maxime Gérin's original poster artwork. We also made NEW! and IMPROVED! English subtitles. We even threw in some bonus features (although our Swedish audio commentary probably won't excite English-speaking audiences).

The DVD is region free (PAL). Should work on all standalone DVD players.

This DVD can be YOURS for the meager sum of $20 (USD), including shipping to the US/Canada/world (€15 for EU). I would have preferred a price tag of $15 or even $10, but sending stuff to the US from Sweden is outrageously expensive (sending one DVD is almost $10), and we have to at least try and break even on this thing.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in getting a copy, send me an email: martin@fasad.se.

Just wanted to put it out there: this exists.

SPECS:

Quote
FILMEN JAG INTE PRATAR OM LÄNGRE / THE FILM I'M NO LONGER TALKING ABOUT
Sweden, 2009. Documentary. 72 minutes. Region free DVD. PAL.
IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1380096/

This is the UNCUT THEATRICAL VERSION of the film, which so far has only been screened at a handful of film festivals around Scandinavia, following the world premiere at the Gothenburg Film Festival in 2009. The version that was shown on Swedish Television (SVT) in the fall of 2009 was a 58-minute long, made-for-TV version. This is the first and likely only DVD edition that will ever exist of THE FILM I'M NO LONGER TALKING ABOUT. In other words: a Collector's Item! :)

BONUS FEATURES:

- audio commentary by Martin Degrell and Jesper Ganslandt (Swedish)
- "Las Vegas"
- teaser trailer
- optional English subtitles

I liked it very much, and I'm not a big watcher of documentaries.  It truly is a coming-of-age tale, and melancholy but funny as those tales so often are.  Growing up is so humbling.

P.S. I wish the commentary were subtitled.
