He's pretty handsome, but I could give him a run for his money with the tongue thing. (Not to toot my own tongue-horn or anything.) I love Pugs, but I don't know if I could ever have one of my own - the ones I've met are so energetic!

There's a carpet cleaning commercial that has a dog scooting his butt, and his owner has this amazing face and screams "TOBY!!" I laughed whenever I saw it. Last night I saw that someone had made an internet remix, including a ton of hilarious dog "butt itching" moments, as well as Toby and his owner, over ridiculous music. http://www.somethingawful.com/d/feature-articles/dog-video-butt.php

Prevost's Squirrel-- I saw one at the zoo yesterday.  Basically looks like a standard squirrel, but colored like a dog:

In person, they seriously look like someone just dyed a regular squirrel.

Actually wouldn't surprise me at the National Zoo.  I was so disappointed at the dessert selection there!  You go to a zoo on a hot day, you want some ice cream.  Some italian ice.  But all they have is pre-packaged junk and vending machines.  What an overrated zoo.

The big surprise of my recent trip to the zoo was that the piglet emerged as a highlight.

I expected cuteness from the Golden Lion Tamarin babies, the prairie dogs (though my friend who works there says they're vicious and nasty up close), the otters... I just wasn't prepared for the piglet.

I love kitten rescue videos on the local news. This little black and white kitten got stuck in a drainpipe, so Fire-Rescue had to come and dig her out. They had to bring in a digger machine and everything! They got the little ragamuffin out, and the family who heard the mewing and called in the rescue is going to adopt the little doll. I love it.

And a few weeks ago, there was another kitten rescue. Two firemen were sitting and holding the little kitten with the poor thing MEOWING its little head off, and the fireman finished his statement about how the fire department is more than just putting out fires by saying, "As you can hear," and gesturing at the kitty cat. I LOVED IT.

I once called the fire department for helping getting a kitten off the roof of a house.  I was informed rather rudely that such tasks were not their purview.  This happened in the not very large town of Bangor, Maine, mind you, where one might reasonably expect a little more help with such matters. 

So much for that stereotype.

That's crazy! There are lots of things in the city of Miami that I'm not very happy about, but at least the fire department rescues trapped kitties.

I'm telling you, I was amazed at the lengths they went to get this kitten out. They had to bring in a digger, call in Florida Power & Light to turn off the power, and dig up a bunch of land to uncover the entire length of this drainpipe so they could put guys on either end of the pipe and chase the little kitty out. I love it.
