What's next, Van Helsing Vans?

The Tipping Point discussion of Airwalk is right on point, I think. Converse is no doubt trying to make hay while the sun is shining by introducing all kinds of product extensions/variations, but there's definitely a danger of overexposure there. They probably entered overexposureland about 6 months or a year ago.  I still like Chuck Taylors although I haven't owned any for about 15 years, but I'd like to be able to buy a pair years from now and not feel uncool.  Is there any way that would be possible?

Oh man, I almost choked when I read that.

Like they're colored to look like a bruise.

I actually wore the Duane Peters Visions for years- I'm not sure why, since I've never particularly cared for Duane Peters.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the Vincent van Gogh Vans. Your choice:
"Starry Night" or "Wheat Field with Crows"

or for those of you with '80s nostalgia, the Timothy Van Patten "Class of 1984" edition Vans.

This could go on forevah...
"Dad gets mad."

I can't wait for the Camper Van Beethoven Vans.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I kind of like it when you see this kind of stuff. Like the Joe Strummer Stratocaster.  Co-opt away. It's a kind of irony that is still funny to me because I don't think the intention is to be ironic but to make lots of money.  Those oversized iconographic t-shirts with Cobain's face on them are even weirder and they've been around for years.

I don't get the love for Converse anymore. They've been owned by Nike for a few years now (which I figured would kill the coolness factor for a lot of fans) and the shoes are overpriced. They used to be fine for $20 or $25 but I'm seeing them at $40 now when they consist solely of shoelaces, a rubber sole, and canvas.

With that said, I've been seeing a lot of ads for the Grateful Dead Converse series... Apparently the Doors are next up for their own shoes.

Nike's, uh, Q-rating, is hecka higher than Converse these days. People shell out hundreds, even thousands, of dollars for limited edition Nike collabs.

I'm just not interested in figuring out a new kind of sneaker. That's part of what I've always liked about chucks; even with the dumb varieties, I can just buy a replacement pair without having to think about it.

I prefer Vans lately. They offer moderate arch support at the very least.

I love alternating between these two pairs. Every now and the I'll slip on the THE TROOPER ones, if I'm feeling rock and roll.

I'm selling my own Limited Edition Nike.

I put on a pair of Nike's, walk through old cat litter, and mail them to you house.

And best of all, you know that they were worn my me!
