I like Aesop.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Trembling Eagle, I felt badly for you when I outed you as Frank the Robot Tank elsewhere. Given the fact that you are a fan of his, there is nothing that I can do to help.

 So I give you this:

From Big & Rich's iTunes celebrity playlist re: their collaboration with Wyclef: "Wyclef Jean says Charlie Daniels is the reason he became a rapper and now he's rapping on our album. I think that's a cool f**kin' story."

umm, my two cents....  the Lil Wayne album is FUN and only that.  does it have some HEAVY hitters on it, yup.  is the production flawless, yup.  Does he use way to much auto tunes, yup...  is it a hip hop album, no.  is it fun to dance to, sure.  sometimes the artist intent and the actual end results are a different.   is Lil Wayne he the greatest rapper alive, i think Talib Kweli or Nas or Rakim might take issue with that.  his freestlyles can be flawless, he has played the game and done well for himself.

like common said "if i dont like it, i dont like it, it dont mean im hating"

anyway The Roots new album is one of the hottest things i have heard in years...

ok begin to making fun of me.
you're gonna love hell, its a lot like Ohio.

Will I also be alienated for liking Edan and El-P?

What we can learn from Trembling Eagle's flameout is objectively judging art inevitably becomes subjective. As long as you own it and aren't a jerk about it, you will not be alienated.

Only if you claim Wyclef is a great rapper.

I'm not saying Trembling Eagle was blame-free but even if he had acknowledged an opinion as subjective, I think he would be criticized.  When he did mention bands he liked, people just blatantly said that rapper sucks." I appreciated that irony. For sure, I think it was more about people not liking his tastes, rather than him getting overboard.  When I first came on the board I criticized "And There Will Be Blood..." which is very much a Tom-endorsed film.  Even though I expressed it as a personal opinion, I was roundly criticized.  So, no, it was not an objective/subjective thing.  People just don't like the guys opinions.

Also, "What we can learn"?? You speaking for the whole group, Chief?

I didn't start out saying that
but its easy to take the position he IS great compared to the utter trash that is wayne
any true lover of music would admit the same. You trendsters will be on to ur next flash in the pan garbage pop rapper in the next 6 months anyway. In a industry fueled by such nonsense and mediocrity a guy like Clef with a modicum of real talent can still be a evergreen though. Let's see who has the longer more meaningful career.

Maybe this is a reach here, but your assuming people who like Lil' Wayne only do so because they have a superficial and short-lived appreciation of rap might be why people are ragging on you.

In fairness to Lil Wayne, he's going on 10 years (at least) in the industry now, and it's been about that long since Wyclef was really relevant. When did the Carnival come out, 98 (hey it's your favorite year again!)?

I think both of em are garbage though, so I don't know what category I'm getting boxed into with this debate. TELL ME.

I don't know what your definition to relevant is but there he is making a hit song with you the supposedly more relevant Wayne in way December of 07 and the links I posted to the live performances on Kimmel and Letterman where in Jan and April of 08. He's breaking new artists (the female piano player mentioned earlier), making hit records and and playing out on national TV and on the radio. Seems pretty relevant to me.
