And Petey is merely a genius, not sick.

i was using "sick" more in the way the young folk do, as a positive modifier. i was trying to speak in the parlance of his generation.

i turn 30 in two days, so i should start acting like i don't relate to teenagers at all, right? even though i still dress like one half of the time, and my parents' sense of humor (that's right: sense. one shared sense of humor) still embarrasses me, and i like bright eyes?

Joanna,
Turning 30 should be fun! And you will stay forever young if you keep listening to Bright Eyes and Conor!

Happy Belated Birthday, Joanna!  From one of your favorite larger fellas.

I've always imagined Spike looking like this (the mustachioed fellow)

Sorry to resurrect a two month old topic, but I just started reading A Confederacy of Dunces and couldn't help but think that Zachary Brimstead must look exactly like this:

I'm even reading out Ignatius's lines in ZB's voice and it makes perfect sense.
"You want me to recognize you and I won't. I won't acknowledge you! I deny you. So you keep begging and begging. The door is slammed on you. I want nothing to do with you. You will die unrecognized by me."

I always think of that character when Zachary calls in.  I suspect this is not entirely unintentional on the party of JW.

Me also on the Ignatius/ZB connection.

This should be cross-posted in the Works that Defeated Me thread (but won't be because I'm too lazy):

A Confederacy of Dunces is the book I've read that went from "Is this a masterpiece or what?" to "Boy, he sure ran out of steam quick, didn't he?" the most severely.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

After I read "The Emperor's Children" by Claire Messud, I can't keep Ignatius and Bootie Tubb separate.  In fact, I related Z. Brimstead more to Bootie than to Ignatius.
I am glad other people think of the Best Show in terms of literary characters.

I am an egocentric fan of Confederacy of Dunces; one or two bad breaks, and I AM that guy.

No!  Dave from Knoxville!  Resist!  If someone offers you a job in a pants factory, I implore you to think long and hard about it.

Although a pants factory might be the perfect place to start that medievalist protest group you're always talking about.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

If you could see one caller, who would it be? James? Spike? Zachary Brimstead?

Spike! Of course. His voice doesn't match his description and it creates a paradox in my mind! Also AP Mike so I could do an Obama style poster for his campaign.
