Hellboy 2
« on: July 10, 2008, 02:53:15 AM »
Saw a screening last night.  It was good.  I give it a thumbs up, despite HUGE flaws.
If you want this thread to be spoiler-free, let me know.
BTW, I'm a major Hellboy/bprd/mignola fan comic-wise.  So know that my complaints will be fanboyish.

I don't read comics, but I remember hearing from people I trust that Hellboy 1 was really good and not at all like other superhero movies. Then I saw it and thought it was awful.

Does Hellboy have some huge fanboy fanbase that I'm getting tricked by, or are these movies actually brilliant and I just have no taste?

Actually, the first one wasn't so bad. I really love the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comics. One of the recent additions to the B.P.R.D. cast is a 2000 year old mummified woman who is quarantined due to high risk of infection or some shit because she was on island for centuries and blah blah blah -- well, she had one request. She wanted a kitten to keep her company. Awwwwww!!!! KITTENS! Kittens fix everything in B.P.R.D., including Liz's fucked up brain.

B.P.R.D. is so full of kitten love.

I say give it a weekend and let those who are emotionally invested see it. Then feel free to dish how ever you want.

Coming from someone who has ruined and been ruined for movies, this will be more fun with more participation.

I'm pretty excited to see it myself. Hellboy was one of the few comics that really engaged me.

I don't read comics and have no emotional investment in Hellboy. That being said, I had a grudging affection for Hellboy 1, mostly due to my love of Ron Perlman's ridiculous face, and Frasier's brother that was that fish man or whatever he was.

I do REALLY want to see Hellboy 2, however, just to see some crazy-ass Giullermo Del Toro monsters.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

I agree. Mike Mignola's designs are in good hands with Del Toro. The two are a perfect match.

I'm anticipating some holes, like there were in the 1st Hellboy movie, but you know what? I wouldn't have done better, so I'm going to munch my popcorn and try not to get crumbs on my lap.

I thought the same thing when I saw the trailer, especially the one that looked a lot like the faun in Pan's.

Fortunately, I received the Official Hellboy Mustache Comb in the promotional press kit. It was a PR long shot, but it was a hit with this kid.

No one in the movie has a mustache... that's what puzzles me.

It is compatible with the Hellboy keychain. There will be no problems.

Or rats.

And speaking of which, I was at the movies last night and a couple rats decided to get into a wrestling match at the end my aisle. It was disconcerting, and I missed parts of the ending.
