laid off
« on: July 27, 2008, 11:27:13 PM »
been three weeks for me.  and it really sucks.  have no money for traveling, even if i was working i could only afford a plane ticket or two a year, and then only if i have a people to stay with.  the economy sucks, i've never had money and now have negative money.  so thanks to those taking pleasure trips and talking about them on air.  makes me feel GREAT.

When I was in Gstaad last week I spoke with someone who informed me that there is apparently some sort of trouble with the economy or whatnot.  I try to ride these things out on the continent-- I certainty don't need to see beggars camped out before the gates.

i have a stats degree.  and it still sucks.  and that was ten years ago.  well, almost have a stats degree.  no one takes an english degree cause that's what their two year  scholarship dictates.  be PROUD of your english degree.  stick with it, i make no money cause i hate my profession, there's a lot more hope when you care about what you do.

Gstaad is the best city in the whole entire world to mention when you want to convey uber-snobbiness. I don't know what it is, the name is like a punch line in itself. (I did get the joke, yesno, and it's a good one.)

In all seriousness, I know how bad it feels. It's not funemployment when you've been laid off. I've been there before, more than once. It gets better, that's all I can say. I sure wish I knew how to make a fellow FOT feel better about it.

I'd buy you some beers if you were in my area.  Where are you?  Your profile says something about Wisconsin

thanks again fido.  i am in wisconsin.  i received some kind words after the firing from my ex-wife who's out living the good life in portland (the street-trash kind of portland, not the maine kind) and from a few fellow employee's who were laid off as well.

That sucks, Ben.  I, too, have been there, and I hope things start looking up for you soon.  If you decide to leave statistics for a glamorous life in the theater, let me know and I'll see if I can help you out.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I can't offer much in the job department.  I could be of service in the beer department.

i could be of service in the couch crashing AND beer lending way if you land another gig (that you hopefully enjoy more) and travel to a non-exotic place like Memphis.

good luck.  ive been there, done that, and despite being broke...its nice to sleep in (when you can).

Hang in there Ben.

I've ben laid off a couple times, and it's the worst. Now I'm a freelancer, which is like being in a perpetual state of laid-offness.

I've been out of work for three months and am just getting work again. It's the worst feeling in the world to be this idle.

Stay close to your friends and call in those favors, that's the only advice I can offer. So from one hobo to another, good luck.
