"My software's not compatible with you."

-Neil Young, Without Rings

Those lyrics show up in the middle of a beautiful acoustic song. And then he sings that. The song is ruined instantly.

To add to that:
"I like girls who wear Abercrombie and Fitch"

Also,
"What we are is what we are/and what we wear.... is vintage clothes."

And if Neil Young didn't do it for you...

We even lost Superman, mhm

If Superman existed in our world, and he died, would he make it into the Dead People Montage at the Emmys? I'm thinking it'd be a huge stretch to get him into the Dead People Montages at the Oscars or Grammys (unless he cut some kind of charity single), and he'd obviously be in all the news outlet years-in-review, but I bet they'd find a way to stick him in the Emmy Dead People reel, because he'd have been in the news all the time.

And if Superman did exist in our world, and did die, and did make the Emmy Dead People Montage, would he go last no matter what? He'd definitely get the biggest applause, and if he'd died this year, he'd get to go last over Carlin. But what if he happened to die in the same year as a legit TV giant? Superman or Newhart, who would draw the final spot? I don't think I'd want the job of whoever has to decide that kind of thing.
This may be the year I will disappear.

That's pretty tame as far as ODB lyrics go. How about this instead:

Pussy ain't nothing but your skin on your bones.
You can fuck it, you can suck it, you can leave it alone.
25 cents is the regular price
50 cents you can fuck it twice
75 cents you can fuck it to the bone
and a dollar's worth..LEAVE IT ALONE!
"Straight-up, helicopters are beyond fresh."

Also, from the ODB canon:

I don't have a problem with you fucking me, but I have a little problem with you not fucking me.

Assuming Metropolis=NYC, Superman would have hosted SNL at least once. He might also have subbed for Letterman while he was recovering from bypass surgery.

If it's just that, Newhart wins. Superman's place hinges on this: Do the evil geniuses make the leap into the real world? Because if Superman got bored and went after copyright violators, he'd lead the montage at the Emmys, Grammys and Oscars.

Royal Trux : Map of the City

And will she like what she has found
I rolled out from under the engine
And I saw her standing there
I knew right then that I could love her forever
Even when her breasts are rotted with cancer
A poor man's Bronson Pinchot.

That part in that Blues Traveller song where he's like "I like coffee and I like tea!!"

Dave Matthews Band:
Hike up your skirt a little more
And show your world to me
In a boys dream.. in a boys dream

This isn't really the same thing, but on the track "Bit Part In Your Life" off It's A Shame About Ray by the Lemonheads, that girl yelling "I just want a bit part in your life!!" in a faux-angry voice literally makes me tear up from embarrassment every time I hear it. I think it's maybe the worst thing recorded in the nineties.

Exactly!

Also, I can't believe no one's mentioned Your Body is a Wonderland. I wonder how many people have been admitted to the emergency room for vertigo/nausea after hearing this...

Yeah, in its way, that's worse than anything The Mentors ever wrote.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

My writing class this summer became weirdly obsessed with this song.
