A plague of Leno will be visited upon us
« on: December 08, 2008, 10:11:39 PM »
I couldn't f&%$ing believe this when I read it. NBC wants to put Leno on EVERY NIGHT at 10 PM. Will no one rid us of this man?

I saw that.  They should have let him take the slippers and tapioca crowd over to ABC.

I haven't watched Leno in a long time. Does he still do 20-minute monologues? I remember his fucking monologues used to take forever. Just a miserable death march of a monologue every single night.

Conan's monologues are also terrible, but at least they're mercifully short. I think Conan's smart enough to know that the monologue is the weak point of his show ... I don't know why he bothers with it, really. Does he really have to be a slave to the traditional format?

Honestly, and without ER, it'll put the nail in NBC pretending they have a 10pm slot at all. So long 50 Law & Order reruns.

Of course if (when) it flops, then Fox and ABC won't want anything to do with Jay either, so it's pretty much a win/win/win scenario as far as I am concerned.

The point is that they are giving up on the 10PM slot. The move is only partially about keeping Leno on board, it's also about a drastic measure to cut costs across the network.

I know it's different across the country on when Leno actually airs, but here it's 10pm news and then Leno. So, does this mean it will be news, Leno and then Conan at 11:30 just like it is now? If so, that it is lame and if I were Conan I'd be talking to ABC and Fox.

Edit: Wait, that would mean it would be on before the news... right? Conan still should be upset seeing that people might turn off the TV after the news since they already watched an hour talk show.

NBC is clearly taking a page from Shout! with their new 3-hour talk show nights. 180 with Hulk Hogan, hello?

Yeah, it would air at 9 p.m. Central. I liked Will Leitch's headline: "That Sound You Hear? Conan O'Brien Punching Himself In The Face."

I'm getting pretty tired of network television and complaining about how much money it costs them to keep original content on the air. Look at NBC and all their huge ensemble cast shows that are extremely mediocre: Heroes, ER, every Law & Order (admittedly I don't really watch these so I don't know if they are any good but I know the casts are pretty large on every show). They should cut down the shows that suck in the ratings and suck in quality so we, the viewers don't have to suffer through Leno at 10 PM every night 46 weeks a year (oh my god, typing that out gave me the chills).

I guess I'm just venting because of how annoying it is that legitimately good shows are getting canned left and right for less expensive (and terrible) alternatives.

for the most part, i stay away from network television across the board.  not to mention, what little i do watch (one or two episodes of something), i record it on DVR and fast forward through everything i hate (commercials, network promos, news blurbs, etc.) and spend the rest of my time watching movie after movie.

besides, it's 2008, everything is on dvd now- even better.
