Who are your favorite failed presidential candidates?
« on: December 29, 2008, 07:54:44 PM »
I've always been partial to Michael Dukakis, mostly because of his eyebrows, but also because he inspired Regan to say: "I think I was kidding, but I don't think I should have said what I said."

I also like Gore not for his personality or politics, but his "I AM THE PRESIDENT, DAMN IT, AND I AM GOING TO EAT LIKE THE PRESIDENT!" weight gain in 2000.
hey what's up

"Fighting Bob" La Follette
Sounds like someone was working as a conduit for nature's natural vengeance.  Just like Jesus.  And some of the others.

When I was 17 in 2000, our Government class took an online quiz in order to see who our ideal candidate was. Our teacher peeked in on people's quiz and said loudly announced, incredulously "YOU'RE INTO GAY RIGHTS???" to embarrass kids in the class. Cool, huh?

So anyway, I got Harry Browne! I caught a few minutes of a speech or something he was giving on C-SPAN. He said something along the lines of "People ask me what the first thing I'm gonna do is when I get to the white house. I tell them this: I'm gonna sit on the couch and watch some TV." I didn't know anything else about him really, but goddamn 17-year-old me loved that.

Al Smith

Smith was the first Catholic to run for president on a major party ticket, and he grew up on the LES of Manhattan and never went to high school or college.  Smith is as 'Hard Hat' as they come. Plus he has probably the best accent of any presidential candidate ever:

I voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 and I still like the guy.  Al Gore turned out to be pretty awesome too.  Either one of those dudes in office would have made the first decade of 2000 a little better.

Ross Perot '92.

He helped deep six Bush I, so I'm not sure he TOTALLY failed.
