Just imagine Herzog having no idea what's going on and trying to interrogate one of the citizens of Newbridge.

Imagine Herzog trying to get to the "ecstatic truth" of Spike.

this is exactly why i voted herzog; im doing a lot of imagining.

My fahntasy:  It is the last Best Show, ever.  Tom gets a call from Jon Wurster as....Jon Wurster.  Totally normal. They talk about all of the joy and all of the laughter of the past many years.

Then maybe, after about 20 minutes of normalcy, Wurster lets slip something about bodies stacked like firewood in his basement, and things go totally south.

I don't know, this seems a little mundane to me, unless it turned out to be true.

Reason #3,689 why I am not a comedy writer.

But I must admit to liking the idea of the mask being pulled off -  having the big reveal - and then finding out the guy wearing the mask is a character himself.

Do I get a brownie point for not using the word "meta?"

Oops.

Mundane was a pointlessly harsh word, and not what I meant. I believe "earnest" would be closer to the effect I wanted.

My apologies to JonFromMaplewood for this affront; I am under a lot of stress, and things aren't flowing as they should.

I think comedian Sean Cullen would fit in well on the Best Show.

Werner Herzog would kill as a guest. Tom's people should get in touch with his representation. Werner does interviews for indie fanzines and blogs all the time. I bet it would be nothing for him to stop by the FMU studios next time he is in New York. Or at the very least phone in an interview and take some calls. That would be a hoot.

Julie from Cincinnati should guest host. Spike doesn't want to taint his mystique so him doing a show aint gonna happen. Maybe Tom could have a fund raiser to get her up to NJ? Julie would be infinitely better than the H-Man. But if she hosts I want advance notice. I've got a tab of Bart Simpson acid I've been saving.

A couple of other fantasy guests: Jon Stewart...Artie Lange

Oscar-nominee Joaquin Phoenix was rescued from his car wreck last week by German cult director Werner Herzog.

The 31-year-old Walk the Line star overturned his car on a canyon road above Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood after his brakes failed and he collided with another vehicle.

Phoenix was saved because he was wearing his seat-belt, but has revealed he was helped from the wreckage by the 63-year-old, who has a home nearby.

The actor says, "I remember this knocking on the passenger window. There was this German voice saying, 'Just relax.' There's the airbag, I can't see and I'm saying, 'I'm fine. I am relaxed. Finally, I rolled down the window and this head pops inside. And he said, 'No, you're not.'

"And suddenly I said to myself, 'That's Werner Herzog!' There's something so calming and beautiful about Werner Herzog's voice. I felt completely fine and safe. I climbed out. I got out of the car and I said, 'Thank you,' and he was gone."

German director Werner Herzog was shot by a crazed fan during a recent interview with the BBC.

The 63-year-old was chatting with movie journalist Mark Kermode about his documentary Grizzly Man, when a sniper opened fire with an air rifle.

Kermode explains, "I thought a firecracker had gone off.

"Herzog, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, said, 'Oh, someone is shooting at us. We must go.'

"He had a bruise the size of a snooker ball, with a hole in. He just carried on with the interview while bleeding quietly in his boxer shorts."

An unrepentant Herzog insisted, "It was not a significant bullet. I am not afraid."

No worries, broheem!  I certainly don't write on the FOT board with the expectation that all responses will be hugs and lollipops.  Mundane. Earnest. They both are reasonable responses.

No question, Dane Cook.  But only if Cook was told ahead of time that the Best Show is a HUGE supporter of his and he is legitimately blindsided by the brashness he will face.

Tom:  "Let's start off with an easy one:  do you REALLY like Metallica?"

That's the one.  Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch, but Tom knows no fear!  The Man-Thing will just have to burn callers over the phone.

Of the four suggested, I'd most like to hear Herzog.  But I think a show with Olivia Munn would be hilarious, because I'm sure that Tom's gentlemanly inclinations would make for a very awkward conversation.  Especially if they discuss why she should be taken out of the Hate Pit.  Or Olivia would eventually start shouting at Tom and he'd have to call the police to get her to leave the studio.
