NMH holds the one-two punch AOTS, but have you heard avery island?  not as fulfilling, unfortunately.  that album keeps me from putting mangum on a pedestal, which i dont do, but when you make a good album and then disappear...youve hooked me.

I have a crapload on unreleased NMH stuff (not that exciting), seeing as I'm a stereotypical indie rock sweater wearing nerd  ;), that I could post somehow in the download section if anyone wants it.

dave i couldnt agree more with this year's model.  "welcome to the working week" and "miracle man" are pretty great, too.

Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
No Action then This Year's Girl

My natural instinct in all discussions regarding Elvis Costello is to just blurt out "This Years Model", but in this case, I think "This Year's Girl" is a pretty weak 2nd punch. I personally like the 1-2 punch of "Blood and Chocolate" much better ("Uncomplicated" / "I Hope You're Happy Now")

"On the Beach" by Neil young (Walk On and See the Sky About to Rain)

"Firewater" by Silkworm (Nerves and Drunk)

About a million others.  Those two stick out for me now.
Well it's been a long time since I've had my favorite drink

Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic
"Modern Kicks" into "I'm A Pretender"

I'm going to be singing this all day now.

Joy Division, Closer - 'Atrocity Exhibition' into 'Isolation'
Spiritualized, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space - title track into 'Come Together'
The Verve, A Northern Soul - 'A New Decade' into 'This Is Music'
Flaming Lips, In A Priest Driven Ambulance - 'Shine On Sweet Jesus' into 'Unconsciously Screamin''
Talking Heads, Remain In Light - 'Born Under Punches' into 'Crosseyed And Painless' (the next two aren't too shabby either).

Fantastic one-two punches on:

Unwound "The Future of What"

Flamin' Groovies "Jumpin' in the Night" (although I prefer the Roy Loney stuff)

and, of course

Rocket From the Crypt "Scream Dracula Scream"
I will never almost regret always

Same with "Look a Ghost" and "December" from Leaves Turn....

Shellac records are good for this, too.  The first two on 1000 Hurts.
Same with the new one--the first two records are face-melters.
