Ben Lee has a new album, which by default means this whole thing just got blown wide open.

Here it is the worst song ever.

World's Worst Song Created Scientifically
February 10, 2009 4:42 p.m. by Kali Holloway

With all the time wasted creating software that purportedly scientifically calculates which songs are most likely to be hits, resources are being routinely diverted from figuring out which songs will suck. Seeing a need where no one else has (and where none really existed), composer Dave Soldier and artists Komar and Melamid asked some 500 visitors to their website to offer insight into the music they’d least want to hear. From there, the three wrote a song that they say “Fewer than 200 individuals of the world’s total population will enjoy.”

Which seems slightly aspirational because it’s actually not so bad. You can tell what ranked highly on the list of things hated in music: horses cloppity-cloppying; tubas; bagpipes; off key operatic vocals “rapping”; and, unexpectedly, children singing (harsh, right?). But instead of mashing it all together and creating one bombastic, 22-minute-long sound pie, the song veers from genre to genre, making it seem like a kind of novelty song, or something a children’s songwriter might put together for laughs. And while it’s definitely annoying, there are worse songs. On the charts. Really.

Sh, let's not wake him up.  He's so cute when he's sleeping!
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

"February 10, 2009 4:42 p.m. by Kali Holloway"

it's important that we have the time on that byline because we can compute, to the minute, exactly how long it took Kali Holloway to report a story from 1996.

OK, I know making fun of Nickelback is kind of old, but I heard this song on the radio one day and actually kind of got angry while listening to it. It makes me feel gross.

I listened to some Huey Lewis thinking his back catologue would provide for this thread but I ended up feeling nostalgic for the Sports album.  Then I remebered the band that makes me want to die; Aerosmith.  It is so derivative and soul sucking and this song tops the heap.

Come on, MoS, you gotta give him this one. Even Republicans use Aerosmith as the theme music to their wannabe filibuster revolution.
