Jeff Dunham

I remember someone bringing this guy up on the show a few months back; Tom seemed to have no idea what the caller was talking about.

Who knew he was the next Dane Cook?

I mean, the very first frigging line:

"Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham's latest concert special begins with an old-man puppet named Walter detailing the best strategy for dealing with a Kwanzaa reveler"

Great premise there, "dealing with a Kwanzaa reveler". Such a common scenario we can all relate to. Man, I hate it when December rolls around and the entire city is taken over by relentless Kwanzaa reveling.

Someone else needs to watch the weirdly Mister Rodgers-esque video of Dunham creating "Melvin the Superhero Guy."  It's kind of mesmerizing.

Yeah, that was me who brought it up. Thanks to Matthew Perpetua, I didn't get the chance to marvel at how inexplicable it is that this man is ultra-famous, especially something like 15 years after MST3K were making jokes about his schtick. He is basically Larry the Puppet Guy.

EDIT: I actually made the "Larry the Puppet Guy" observation before reading the Slate article, which says the same thing. Also, this is all kinds of terrible-sounding:

Quote
The Obama presidency, he says, represents a great opportunity to bring back Sweet Daddy D, the black puppet that's been on the shelf since his first comedy special. Dunham explains that in crafting Sweet Daddy, he had to research the nuances of the African-American face, which he calls much "more interesting and dynamic than the plain old Caucasian."

Jeff Dunham making his own puppets is like Gallagher growing his own watermelons. This guy is awful.
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

The Slate article reads, "By every conceivable measure, Jeff Dunham is America's favorite comedian."

You're not alone, Martin, I had never heard of him either. Maybe that just goes to show how out of touch I am.

I don't, but after I saw the article I asked around and no one I know who watches CC was more than vaguely aware of this guy's existence. And nobody recognized his name without me explaining, 'he's the racist ventriloquist/dead terrorist puppet guy'.

ive got comedy central (who are guilty of playing the commercial for their next special three times during each break) and cant get away from the guy.

not to mention, my brother likes him- a surprise to me and my heart broke a little.
