Well, I don't know how new it is anymore, but on first listen I feel like we got a real dud on our hands here. There's no SONGS on the thing.  However, the new Black Lips Jr, AKA The Strange Boys, is pretty good.

the biggest disappointment for me in awhile. i was so looking forward to this album and its just boring.
I was the first guy in hardcore to whip people with his belt.

I've heard mostly negative stuff, but I like it.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Not their best album at all, but I think "Short Fuse" is one of their best singles.

I don't care, I'm just happy they're bringing Gentleman Jesse to town.
Too soon?

ditto.

trust me, ive seen worse.  although, i'd have to ask A.M.Thomas if he remembers their name (the band that cleared the hi-tone out at gonerfest V).

oh, i'm still considering seeing them at the El Rey of all places (who'm I kidding, I won't go), but I don't dig this record so far.

I caught this tour at the Bowery Ballroom in New York a couple of weeks ago. I thought the Gentlemen Jesse set was pretty good, but the Black Lips were horrible. I have seen them live many times, sometimes great and sometimes just okay, but this last show was terrible. They were too wasted to play, and the sound was tinny and annoying. I will always love this band and buy their records, but it is a matter of luck catching them on the right night.

my sentiments on every time ive seen them live.  its annoying until i see their coming to town again, then i get a case of amnesia.

first time i saw them they were awesome. it was at the bigfoot lodge. if you know LA you know how tiny that place is and how fun shows could be there. the was some vomiting but no peeing, thank god. the thing that sticks out in my mind was at the end the drummer ended up in this keith moon-like pile of drums and all you could see were drums and his hands and feet both sticking out  the top in the same place pointing in the same direction.  the closest thing I've seen to a cartoon in real life ever maybe.

I also like "Short Fuse," and I think "Drugs" is kinda catchy.  As much as I dig 'em, it's hard for me to deny that it's a big step back from the heights of Good Bad Not Evil, which was clearly their best record and looks like it might remain so.

Edited to add that I also am enjoying the Strange Boys LP.

I've come around on this album.  It may not be a grabber, but it's a grower.

Oh, far and away.  It's a grabber and it don't let go.  I love Mr hardy and his label, and I like lo-fi but the production on a number of those records has kept me from enjoying them to their fullest.  i could not listen to Too Much Guitar by the Reigning Sound because the treble literally hurt my ears.
