More and more the evidence is showing that exercising in general is not nearly as effective as diet for losing weight.  As in it's the 20 in the 80-20 rule.

But it's good for building endurance and overall health...

You don't burn all that many calories while exercising.  But I think the follow-on effects help you lose weight.

Exactly. You accelerate your resting metabolic rate, meaning you burn more calories during the time when you're not active.

Here's the thing. If you are obese and don't exercise, you will start to see results quickly if you do something as simple as walking and eating healthy.  And again, one of the best ways to speed up your metabolism is weight training.

Also, don't focus on the number so much as how you look and feel, esepecially the feel part.  Muscle ways more than fat so keep that in mind.

And watch some episodes online of this past season of The Biggest Loser.  It's pretty great, actually, if you're interested in weight loss.

I exercise mostly for the endorphin rush which makes me feel like unto a God.  My BMI is 22 even.  I suppose it would be nice to get it below 20 but it's even nicer to continue eating cupcakes.

I've never heard the term muscle confusion.  I do try to mix things up with my running, though--I vary the distance according to no schedule, and some days I just randomly try to go as fast as I can, which makes me gasp for air amusingly, startling the ladies and gentlemen out on their strolls.  My favorite thing is to try to sprint for as long as I can near the end of a run.  It's easier to run 2 miles than sprint 2 blocks.

And now, I am about to go on a 45 minute trip to the nearest place that sells vegetarian cheesesteaks.

muscle confusion is basically switching up what exercises you do.  like having two workouts for whatever area you're targeting and alternating back and forth.  then switching it up completely after, say, six weeks.  helps keep shit from getting too boring.

I am looking for music to listen to while I run. I enjoy songs that express an atheist, alienated, anti-authoritarian, anti-corporate sentiment. So besides NIN, I like XTERMENATOR by Primal Scream and The Holy Bible by The Manic Street Preachers. My enjoyment of Rage Against the Machine begins and ends with Killing In The Name. I find them sonically uninspiring. Sometimes I listen to Mclusky and Public Enemy as well. Any suggestions? I find this sort of music to be best, although I've listened to plenty of other things while running in the past. The artists' words express my frustrations and the running is a means for me to release those frustrations.

Two acts that fit this exact bill:  a rapper from the 80s and 90s that everyone has forgotten.  I think his name was "The Fresh Prince." Also a rock band that I think never achieved the mass popularity they deserved.  I want to say they were called "Limp Biskit."

Both those acts are plenty anti-corporate for even the most implacable world trade group protester.

Damn iPhone.  I also got humiliated by Spike in another thread.  Like Tom Cruise and Shelley Long, I'm "Losin' It."

How's everyone's bellies coming along?

I think I might  have broken my arm today skateboarding so I will be taking a lil break from activities until it feels better.
I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow.
