Is this the most disturbing Archie comet boot story ever?
« on: April 22, 2009, 02:56:27 PM »
(sorry for the lousy image quality-- the only way I could have done it in color would have been to go to my work's copy center and have one of the people there do it, and I don't want to be known as the 29-year old who still reads Archie comics. Not at work, at least.)

Seriously, what the christ?  I can forgive it for not being funny, because I can't think of the last time I laughed at anything in an Archie comic, but it's like the writers were posessed by H.P. Lovecraft's ghost, or something.

I remember stories like this in Archie comics from when I was a kid. Classic DeCarlo art, but weird, scary atmosphere. (Especially the Sabrina stories, as I recall.) I'm not sure when they stopped doing stuff like this, but I also still read Archie occasionally, and the thrills provided these days are lukewarm at best.

I was in the checkout line the other day and thought about picking up an Archie Digest, just to see if the clerk would have any subtle reaction to me buying one.  Then I realized those kinds of thought patterns are probably what lead people down the road to Improv Everywhere.

Turn back, for God's sake turn back!
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I remember buying the digests only if they crossed over with something like Ninja Turtles.

Wasn't there an inexplicable Archie/Punisher crossover once?

Yep. Also, notice that the band playing is Josie and the Pussycats.

I have done this, and I would advise against it. I couldn't tell if the cashier thought I was mentally retarded, or a weirdo, or both.

This story came out of a old Double Digest from the 80's-- I bought a box of them for twenty bucks off of some guy on eBay. It was a solid investment.

Really? The cashiers at my local A&P are not nearly so judgmental.
