Jay Leno
« on: May 30, 2009, 12:51:19 AM »
I don't normally watch late night talk shows, but I did watch the final episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as host. Is there anyone else that watched this? Does anyone care? I can't remember a finale that got less hype than this.

I've never much cared for Leno. I guess I'm not the only one.

I think nobody cares because everybody has mixed feelings about how he treated Conan by deciding to not retire and take that 10PM spot. I'm not a fan of Leno's show and I'm too young to have seen any of his old stand-up material from before his show started, so I only really watched this episode to see the Conan interview.

I used to watch Carson and Letterman when I was younger. I also used to watch a lot of Conan. But about two or three years ago, I lost interest in late night tv. It just seems like someone leaving The Tonight Show would be a bigger deal.

And I do think Conan got a raw deal from NBC.

I go to bed too early to watch late night tv, but I can say with confidence that in the recent NY Times Magazine profile of Conan, Jay Leno comes across as a total asshole. The guy's a workhorse though - in addition to his nightly tv show, he does an average of 130 stand-up gigs a year.

Come on, guys, lay off. Jay Leno is a sort of Newbridge hero. Those first few shaky years, he singlehandedly kept the Denim Clad Dad in business.

Despite Tom's claim that I have an easy laugh this guy has never made me laugh.

Not Once.

Conan made me laugh.

I think you're thinking of Tom Waits.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

The only thing I have to say about this episode is that Conan was a good interview and I legitimately thought the tons of kids who were born from people meeting by working on the show was a nice touch. Other than that...Bring on the ConeZone.
