At my jr. high school job I get the school lunch the students get and it's typically good. Today was a korokke (a fried potato pancake thing), sesame gobo salad, miso soup with tofu and fish cakes, and rice. Yummy.

alicha link at http://ethiopianrecipes.net/alicha-ethiopian-stew/ and, if you're feeling like sweet potatoes, another excellent recipe at http://ethiopianrecipes.net/ethiopian-style-lentils-with-yams-or-sweet-potatoes/.

on the alicha, we used 3-4 cloves of garlic, and 4 peppers instead of 6. it was still plenty hot, but the cabbage and carrots cooled everything out.

the spices you can get at an indian grocery. we purchased berbere (which i don't think is in either of those recipes) at an ethiopian grocery by my work. likewise, the injera. fresh injera! you can make amerethiopian crepes with the stuff: smear on nutella, fruit, whatever!
