I just downloaded the Big Star Tribute.

Plenty of cherries to pick there.

Idle Wilds the biggest surprise.

Just a good song:
The Supersuckers' "Paid".

Also, I forgot to say that I cherry-pick songs from the Sympathy for the Record Industry comps, lots of good stuff there.

Hm, should I cancel in the hopes that they'll offer me a big booster pack?  Or just continue my current policy of getting bands I want to support on eMusic (or, if I can't find it there, Amazon) and trolling music blogs for the rest?  There is still a lot of stuff on there that I want.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Cancel and see what they will offer you. They will probably offer you some enticement to stay on.

If I can find two albums I want per month, then it's worth it.  Still way cheaper than itunes and you're supporting the artists.  Two albums per month is the hard part.

Think the Condo Fucks will be my first pick when the month turns over.

And you don't even need to go through with the actual canceling anyway. They dangle out the booster pack offer before the deed is even completed.

My big problem wasn't the whole "twice the price for half of the downloads" aspect for some of the subscription packages, which probably would/should have led to me canceling anyway, but the way they went back on their word and would no longer be honoring the "guaranteed" subscription rates they had assured their earliest customers (of which I wasn't - I had had my just-recently-canceled account 3-4 years). In order to get the Sony back catalog, I'm sure they must have had to agree to do something about those generous packages, but disregarding the most loyal segment of their customer base left me feeling uneasy.

Whatever. Things change. We move on. There's still a ton of great stuff on the site but it made me realize that it was no longer the place for me. It allowed me to reconsider how i go about getting a hold of my music and for that I am grateful - there's an excellent record store which had always served me well just three blocks from here which I had been neglecting little by little over those 3-4 years.
I've got 99 problems but a FOT ain't one.

I like the lead track from the new Akron/Family if it's available. Also, Vessel (I get a dollar for every 4000 downloads.)

I have one download left for this month. I think I will use this thread as a factoring too in my own choosing.

Peter Brötzmann Octet-Machine Gun (Second Take)

One of the heaviest and most hilarious songs ever committed to tape.

i grabbed slack motherfucker by superchunk because i don't currently own any form of it (well, I do know) and I grabbed the pharcyde b-side "Pork" which i had on a cassette single back in the day.  So I have two more. I'm checking out every suggestion tho.

dammit, the Future of the Left album isn't on there.  Also, I can't believe unused downloads don't rollover.  Woulda been nice to know, fucks at emusic.

This is a bit off topic, but I've loved using Amie Street for the last year or so.  They've got some of my fav bands on there (GBV, Yo La Tengo, Preston School of Industry, etc), even if they might not carry every single album. And I've found a lot of cool new stuff, too. They have this pricing scale based on popularity so that the more obscure a song/album, the cheaper it is.  They seem to have relationships with some better labels (Matador, Delicious Vinyl, Beggars Banquet, 4AD, to name a few).  But I'm not sure how they partner with artists.

Give it a few days/weeks, there have been a few "new" released that, for whatever reason, are put up a bit after their official release date.

I bought it on vinyls (sic) today. they had "curses" used for 4.99 on cd so i grabbed that as well.  not really that impressed by that (sounds too much like rage against the machine at moments for my taste) but I will crack the new lp tomorrow and see what's what.

I'm gonna get the condo fudges album this month and something else as well as check out all suggested tracks from this thread. thanks, guys.
