Best Show Gems Discussion

I loved how Slapshot doubled for Mike Jackal's band, Punk, in this week's gem.  That was my first punk show - Slapshot with Murphy's Law in the basement of the St. Louis AFW Union Hall.

Good ear, Hugman!  Slap Shot was actually my first show ever, on an all-Boston bill, opening for Gang Green (though I didn't recognize them in the bit).  I was a huge Murphy's Law fan, too, and saw them about 5-6 times.  I have always regretted selling my green vinyl Arf Arf Arf.  I re-bought all the other hardcore I miss, namely Bad Brain and the Minor Threats, but can't find those guys in any medium, legal or otherwise.  Anyone got any leads?

Also loved the Gem, of course.  Was that your doing, Martin?
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I always forget that it's been two weeks since the last Gem, so every (other) Monday it's a welcome surprise to see something new downloadin' courtesy of Captain Malmo.

That's funny. Slapshot was both of our first shows.  Gang Green is an equally hilarious band to pair Slapshot with.  At my show, you had Slapshot singing "Straight Edge In Your Face" followed directly with Jimmy Gestapo pouring pitchers of beer on the crowd.

Thanks for the gems, Martin.

I didn't listen to the Gem today because it's a call I already had on my computer, but I remember them playing the song "In Your Face" on that one.

Also, I don't know where you're located, but I saw a copy of the first Murphy's Law on green vinyl for sale at Academy Records in Brooklyn the other day. It was 30 bucks though, which is more than it usually sells for as far as I know.

Thanks, Timmy!  I live in Brooklyn but am in Virginia for work right now -- hopefully it will still be there when I get home.  I'd pay 30 clams for that even though I would probably only listen to it once in a while.

You mean Brooklyn?  Someone has a high opinion of himself.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

No problem! I didn't mention it in my other post but it's right on the wall when you walk in.

I've been meaning to ask Tom if he ever got his $10,000 from the lead singer of the Clash.

I'm guessing that Brett Haskins is the guest Tom was chasing for a year, in order to collect that money.

Maybe he can make amends with the Gorch by siccing him on Brett and splitting the money.

Hey Timmy, I've been meaning to thank you -- I came back to NY about 3 weeks ago and snagged it.  A bunch of other records, too -- that place is dangerous.
