Crosby vs. Stills vs. Nash vs. Young
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:12:45 PM »
In light of Tom's recent distress over the Neil Young box. I would love to see this topic revisited. Out of all of the great reasons for their vote, my favorite had to have been for Young simply "because he hung around with the other three".

(I was going add that CSN were set to play a few blocks from me, but it must have already happened - in checking to confirm, I noticed that Psychopathic Records family member Tech N9ne will be at the same venue  in October.)

Ranked by order of preference:

1. Neil Young
2. David Crosby
3. Graham Nash
4. Stephen Stills

I think Neil Young wins because he has the best overall body of work. Crosby would be second for his work with The Byrds and for the underrated gem, "If I Could Only Remember My Name." The final two are interchangeable.

For the record, Tech N9ne is not a Psychopathic Records family member. He's one of the guys that falls under the category of "just collecting a paycheck and eventually realizing it may not have been worth it".

I thought that was the funniest thing ever.

I am falling hard for Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners album.  Crosby is firmly in third place and Stills is crawling around on the floor looking for some wayward coke.

The ranking of CSNY reminds me of a really great game where you try to determine the smartest member, the dumbest member, and the toughest member of bands.

Velvet Underground:
Smartest-John Cale
Dumbest-Doug Yule
Toughest-Maureen Tucker

Ramones:
Smartest-Joey
Dumbest-Johnny
Toughest-Dee Dee

Red Hot Chili Peppers:
Smartest-John Frusciante
Dumbest-Chat Smith
Toughest-Flea

Keep in mind that the Beatles are nearly impossible to rank.

You could do something very similar with AC/DC, though I don't know which band member would get all three awards. Bon Scott, I guess.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I'm a total sucker for anything NY related (like millions and millions before me), and I picked up Guitar magazine yesterday.  NY's on the cover, so it's genetically encoded that I have to buy it.

This interview is unreal.  The ENTIRE TIME he blabs on and on about the beauty of Blu-Ray technology, about how we can REALLY hear the interplay between he and Danny Whitten, now, for the first time, because of this amazing Blu-Ray player.  It is one long advertisement.

Sickening.  He's now giving Stephen Stills a run for his douchebag money.

KISS - original lineup only

Smartest - Ugh.  One would have to say Gene Simmons.
Dumbest - Sorry, Peter.  And congratulations, Ace - avoiding this is a real triumph for you.
Toughest - Whoever has survived more car crashes between Ace and Peter.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Really? I've heard John Frusciante talk - ever seen the video collection put out by Mark Romanek? Frusciante I guess was belly aching about something and got into a tiff w/Romanek, and he could barely form a sentence. He then later relented and wrote him a note praising the video. It looked like it was written by an 8 year old.

If John's the smartest and Chad's the dumbest then that band is more terrible than I thought. Then again, I hate RHCP with the intensity of a thousand suns. So that's already pretty bad.

Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?

This is such a tough one.  The Peter and Ace showdown in "dumbest" is truly epic.  I think I tend to go:

S-Paul
D-Peter
T-Ace

I just hit shuffle songs on my iPod and pressed next until i came to a band that I could remember all of the names of, as luck would have it I found The Band and spent more time than I care to admit figuring this out.

The Band:
Smartest-Robbie Robertson
Dumbest-Rick Danko
Toughest-Garth Hudson

If we could vote for weakest it would be Levon Helm.
