Misheard Lyrics
« on: September 24, 2009, 09:56:28 PM »
I totally misheard a lyric for a great song that I heard for the first time tonight.

I got "This is Fort Apache" a long time ago but never listened to it all the way through.  So it comes up on the iPod in the car - I swear I heard:

"There's no electric company working for you, there's no electric company working for me"

Instead of, "there's no one left to come looking for you."  It's much clearer listening to it on the computer.  I guess it makes more sense that way.

I was jazzed about the idea that the electric company wasn't really working for anyone.  Oh, well.  Great song.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Yes there is!

John Cale, "Paris 1919".

The lyric is: "She'd open up the doors and vaguely carry us away"

I hear: "She'd open up the doors - Ed Begley, carry us away"
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

Mondegreen's?  On the last Best Show I mistook Ian Svenonious' "Your My Miss Washington D.C." for "Your Mom is Washington D.C.".

John Cale always was prescient.  He saw the rise and fall of Richard Dean Anderson as well.

Death Cab for Cutie--"Soul Meets Body"

"I do believe it's true, there are nuns left in both of our shoes."

The actual lyrics are not much different.

Blinded by the Light-Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Misheard lyric: "Wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night."
Real lyric: "Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night."

Every time I hear that song, I get a chuckle.

There is absolutely no way he is not singing "douche" in that song.

Honestly, I can't tell. I always thought he sang the word, "douche." But apparently the correct word is "deuce."

One from my childhood:  Jefferson Airplane, "Somebody to Love." "Your eyes, I say your eyes, may look like ears"  (s/b "look light years").

It's not cut loose like a deuce?

Heard Billy Ocean's "Carribean Queen" as "Caribou Twist" for many years. Still prefer my version.

Pretty much every Pavement lyric. SM has a habit of slurring a lot of his speech.

Anything by Dan Beijar (sp) too. Doesn't make me dislike his songs in the slightest. It makes them more fun IMHO.

Living in Japan means I end up going to Karaoke on occasion. One of the hard things about singing karaoke is those moments when you you're singing a song and really odd line comes up. It's not what you thought was in the song originally. So you say to yourself, "That's what he says? What the fuck does it mean? Oh, crap now I feel weird about singing it..." but the line is upon you now so you mumble the line and try not to care because your the only non-Japanese there and they don't know English as well as you do.
