I actually really enjoyed "What Up With That?" just because of the pure absurdism of it. I'm a sucker for a slow(ish) build up to more and more insanity in a skit. I still stand by the statement that Kenan is better than people give him credit for.
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

Well, I think he's GOTTEN better. Playing for so long with such profoundly weird comics as Will Forte,  Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Andy Samberg seems to have made him more comfortable doing weirder and more complex humor.

Yes. You are correct, sir!

This is obvious, but the most troubling and confounding thing about SNL is that in order to become a writer on the damn thing, one must need to be such a comedy nerd, such a consumer of sketchdom, that most of the output of the show would be considered embarrassing. And yet, the show exists; these things are written. What gives?

The current cast is amazing, though. Wiig is nearly a living legend.

I think Kenan excels at the reaction shot, and falters when he's given too much dialogue.  If I made a movie, I would cast him in a Silent Bob-esque role.

Wiig is nearly a living legend.

Ali.  Dylan.  Wiig.  Seems about right, except not in that order.

My friend just described "Daveheart" to me in an email tirade where he seemed to have given up entirely on SNL after last night. I couldn't help but giggle at the title though, and now wish I'd stayed up to watch and see this Dave at work.

I definitely rate Wiig higher than those two goofballs.

Those digital shorts just keep getting more and more absurdist.

I really enjoyed "threw it to the ground", actually. The concept is almost Wurster-esque, one might say.

Has anybody else noticed that the skits get better as the show goes on this year? The first sketches have been awful and it continued this week with the terrible ESPN alien sketch. Last night had a few good ones, but they really need to bring somebody else on board so Kenan doesn't have to play all of the black characters not named Obama. I think he's ok and has really done a much better job this year but he's out of place with a lot of stuff they ask him to do.

My son thought the alien skit was the funniest thing he's seen all year. Ain't different tastes grand?

He should definitely see the original, then, which I definitely thought was funny this spring. I'm disappointed that they went back to that well.
