The media has neither a liberal nor a conservative bias (the News Corp empire aside), but an elite/corporate bias. That's how we get nonsense like Bloomberg's centrist billionaires movement as somehow representing "the forgotten middle," when really they represent policies that almost no one likes (though I do think Bloomberg's tenure as mayor has been pretty much a wash -- about as much good as bad). It's basically the perspective of well-educated people who are deeply mistrustful of the mass of Americans (whether that is represented by union members, low-wage workers, people in "flyover states," or the Christian Right), who are doing very well for themselves, and who don't want to rock the boat.
