I'll start with F*cked Up's cover of "Do they Know It's Christmas."

I'm fortunate to have gotten the Eddie G christmas albums for a handful of years, and there be some great stuff on them. One of my faves is a Christmas version of Eddie Noack's "Psycho" by Thirsty Dave's Western Caravan.  I'm a ghoul.

Also, Rufus Thomas "I'll Be Your Santa Baby"

Ethiopians "Ding Dong Bell"

3 Aces and a Joker "Sleigh Bell Rock"
(no link)

Hank Ballard "Christmas Time For Everybody But Me"

Untamed Youth "Santa's Gonna Shut 'Em Down"

Sonics "Don't Believe In Christmas"

I guess my favorite traditional xmas song would be The Little Drummer Boy.

Hello, FOT,
My boss uses Pandora Christmas music as her background music this time of year, which is my nightmare. Partly this is due to my atheism: Yes the drummer boy played a pretty song. But it was just for a baby who later lied about being omniscient. So what?

If you listen to Pandora Christmas you'll notice that you hear the same song several times by different artists even if you say you don't like the song.  The most objectionable of them are:

Santa Baby (With a bullet. Sexual Santa? It should not be done.)
Jingle Bell Rock (Not actually a rock song.)
Beyonce doing Christmas music. (Just irritating.)

Thank you, forum.

I guess I'll have to steer clear.

Though I am tempted to try and beat it.

I've already heard "Santa Baby" about 3 times in various lady stores over the past few weeks. I realized I'm way done with that song.

The first time I heard it--around 1980; it was the Eartha Kitt version--I found it amusing.  I have since grown very weary of it.

John Fahey's Christmas music is purty.

For a minute I thought you said Joey Fatone.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Only heard this song for the first time recently, was delighted to find that Mr. Patton had done a hilarious takedown thereof.

It didn't survive when they relaunched the Chipmunks in the '80s and turned Dave Seville into a pathetic wimp, but I did appreciate the escalating tension between Alvin and Dave in the original Chipmunks, most evident in their Christmas song.

I bet Brian Wilson used to listen to Alvin giving Dave all kinds of shit in the studio and dream of some day being able to get away with doing that to Murry Wilson. He'd probably listen to Chipmunk records repeatedly around the Holidays, thinking about how cool it would be to be like Alvin, until Mike Love would get sick of hearing them and throw Brian's Chipmunks records on the roof.

After the current movies have passed and it's time to re-invent the Chipmunks again, they should get back to that original Alvin/Dave dynamic, and maybe toughen Dave up by giving him a glass eye. And maybe he could carry a gun to the studio like Phil Spector, but he'd only pull it on Simon or Theodore because Alvin would always call him out on not having the guts to use it.

Anyway, Merry Christmas!
This may be the year I will disappear.
