I live about a half-mile from the almost-dead Rhode Island Mall. This was THE place during my childhood/teens, but has since declined steadily. With the exception of Sears, a Kohls & a WalMart (all of which are physically connected, but for the most part separate from the Mall proper) it seems to only retain a DMV satellite location & The Silver Dragon, an outlet for all your magickal needs. I was just informed last week that The Silver Dragon is gone.

more here: http://www.deadmalls.com/

Walking through the RI Mall is so eerie because I can remember when it teemed with activity. There is the Warwick Mall, about a 1/4 mile down the road which has survived and seems to be doing well.

sorry for the nostalgia trip, but the point is that at least that place had life at SOME point. I can't imagine walking around such a behemoth of capitalist hubris that never got the chance to see healthy foot traffic.

in short, the gub'ment should just bail these jerks out, and turn Xanadu into some weirdo art-space/museum/time capsule where you drive around on a Hummer-tram and witness all the excesses of late 20th cent/early 21st cent consumerism.

Someone needs to make a ghost mall horror movie.  Or has it already been done?  (Neither Dawn of the Dead counts.)

I was sad to learn of the passing of B. Dalton, which was an oasis of culture and sophistication in the Ocean County mall.

What Xanadu needs is a dose of the good ol' concentrated evil that's inflated Dubai's bubble.

Night of the Comet?

"This place is an absolute monument to consumerism!"

That's a strange line for a horror movie.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

But that movie isn't set in an empty mall, right?  There's just a scene or two?  I'm thinking of something that takes place in haunted mall from start to finish.

There's also Chopping Mall, which does take place in a mall, but the mall isn't technically haunted. It is instead infested with killer security robots. Killbots.

I'm gonna go pitch Rob Zombie on a Rob Zombie's Maul of America script.
This may be the year I will disappear.

Several scenes.  Not the whole thing, but a good bit of it.

Let's not forget "Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge"

Which is surprisingly not a Trent L. Strauss production.

I want something eerie and creepy, not gory.  I don't know if Rob Zombie can capture that.

Isn't there a good department store scene in the original Carnival of Souls?  Something along those lines, perhaps.

There is scene in which she is in a department store and is unnable to communicate with anyone, but when she is wandering around the abandoned complex that is a kind of old timey amusement park.
