I really enjoyed seeing The Flaming Lips for 40 minutes before the clouds caved in on Philly. Also loved The Avett Brothers and Monsters of Folk but the best show of the year was Swell Season or the free Bill Callahan instore. Hansard is quite the performer and straight up owned a Van Morrison song.I was greatly dissappointed by Elvis Perkins who was very dull and I went to the Big Suprise Tour with David Rawlings Machine, Felioce Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show. Maybe it's because I've seen each of those a few time but it was soooo boring.
I saw the Mountain Goats seven times this year and it's hard to pick just one as the best, but if I had to I guess I'd go with the show at the Bell House in Brooklyn on 12/2.Aside from them, my favorite show was Art Brut at Johnny Brenda's in Philly.
