FOT Bookclub - ?
« on: March 18, 2010, 04:03:28 PM »

Anyone interested in a FOT 'virtual' bookclub, with discussions taking place here on the board ?  Has this idea already been discussed here?

I would really be interested in this. What kind of books? Fiction? Non-fiction?
Doing it Mentos style.

Sounds like a good idea.  What are the chances that the first book will be Rona Jaffe's "Mazes & Monsters".  I mean, I'm sure we have all seen the Tom Hanks film based on it.

I was about to applaud your Photoshop skills until I realized that this movie actually exists.

i consider the Faves Books/Books You're Currently Reading thread a bookclub thread already.

i saw we kick it up to a bookcrossing concept and send each other books.  no keepers!

I think it should be the Friends of Tome Book Report. Someone has to call the show and try to give a 30 second book report. My library doesn't have that Rona Jaffe title.

We could all read the book and then call the show on the same night with our commentary.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Here's a book suggestion for the club.
"Homer and Langley" by Doctorow. It's a fictionalized story based on the lives of New York's notorious compulsive hoarders the Coylier brothers, who lived in a time predating psychological diagnosis and treatment for the disorder. Perfect FOT fodder, a fun, captivating read, with a touch of tragic.
Currently, there is a reality show that goes into the homes of compulsive hoarders and bull-dozers the clutter out, as part of their treatment. I couldn't even watch half an episode, it was too gross.
Anyone in?

I like the book club idea. Considering I have a small pile of clutter that I need to get motivated to get rid of, I think the Homer and Langley book would be a good one for me to begin with...lol
