free cats !

So, someone I know from another message board is desperately pleading for a home for these cats:





Here's the story:

Several months ago, a cat showed up at my door, hungry and cold and terrified of everything. It took me all of two minutes to decide that she was coming inside.

Because no good deed goes unpunished, this cat promptly became six cats. In my life-long illustrious career of being a cat lover, this is the first time this has happened to me. And if it never happens again, I owe God a Coke.

The babies are now three months old. They are beautiful and perfect and loving and wonderful little darlings. AND NO ONE WANTS THEM. The misadventures I have had trying to find homes for them have been ... misadventurous. And of course, at this point, there is no way I can divvy them up to a shelter to be left to fates unknown (or, let's be honest, horribly known). But neither can I care for six cats. Ideally, I would swing* with two. Less than ideally, I would swing with up to four.

So, this is where you come in. I haven't mentioned anything here before because, even though I love a good many of you, most of you live East Nowhere from where I live. But I'm really just about out of options.

If you know anyone; friend, family, non-sketchy acquaintance, anywhere in what could even vaguely be considered the New York Metropolitan Area (I'll drive) who would make a home for a kitten, please let me know.

And if you know someone who would make a home for two kittens, I would be over the moon. There are two black ones, a boy and girl, who are absolutely devoted to each other, and I'd love to see them stay together.

* I think I should be commended for retaining my ability to pun at a time like this.

If it were practical for me to take them in, I probably would.  Failing that, maybe one of you nice FOT is interested?

I've said this many times before ... I would be hip-deep in the dogs and the cats if I could afford the vet bills.

Just realized I posted the same pic twice.  I'd better find the other and substitute it for one of the dupes.  It might be the clincher!

These cats look insanely like the brother and sister I took in fourteen years ago (they'd been dumped with their mother at an abandoned house that used to stand next door to me [a neighbor took the ma]).  If I were able to adopt them, it would be like acquiring matching replacements for the oldsters.

HEALTH UPDATE

The woman who has the kittens now reports the following: 

"They've been to the vet once, had a first round of shots (FIV, FELV, Rabies, Distemper) and dewormers. I can provide a copy of that paperwork. They haven't been tested for FIV and FELV (the vet told us too early could give false positive results) but momma cat has been tested and is negative for both. Physical exam was unremarkable and they seem to be in excellent health.

"They haven't been fixed yet, but if they're here much longer, they'll need to be."

So . . . . . ?

although i live in memphis, if i had not VERY RECENTLY grabbed one of my sister's new puppies, i would drive to NY area and pick them up- no lie.

Well, this thread certainly hasn't seen much action.  Perhaps the news that the kittens have now been snipped will fan the flames of interest.  Two charming black kittens!  For free!  And now free of reproductive organs!  What a bargain!
