Movies people are/are not looking forward to in 2011
« on: January 07, 2011, 06:59:42 PM »
My RSS feed is fulla articles about what's coming up, and this caught my eye:

"Jackass" prankster Johnny Knoxville, "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg and Australian comic Shane Jacobson are on the shortlist to play Moe, Larry and Curly, respectively, in 20th Century Fox's "Three Stooges," TheWrap has learned from an agency insider.

This would be a major shift in direction for the project, which initially had Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carrey circling the iconic titular roles, though the latter two actors have officially dropped out of the running. It makes sense, however, as not only would Knoxville, Samberg and Jacobson appeal to younger audiences -- there's an entire generation (or two) that's mostly unfamiliar with the Stooges -- but they're also more in line with the spirit of the original slapstick trio.

Also, that The Thing prequel!

And about 8 billion superhero movies.

You're not looking forward to the Thing prequel?  What's ailing you?

Having Sean Penn play Larry, of all roles, would have been funnier to me than anything else they could have come up with.  I suspect watching Milk would be impossible now without noticing the creeping influence of Larry Fine on that performance.

Are: Meek's Cutoff, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

Are not: Kristen Wiig's Gilly movie (I still predict this will be made)

No, I am looking forward to that - I'm more ambivalent about all the superhero movies.

I know - that was the beauty and the horror of the whole thing before - the casting was so bonkers that the finished product was either going to be glorious or horrifying, and very likely both.

That article makes this thing sound more horrifying than anything Penn could witness in Haiti.

It's technically a 2010 film, but I'm not looking forward to A SERBIAN FILM at all. In fact I vow not to see it. There's a very detailed plot synopsis on its Wiki page, if you're curious. Too much. Let's just say it makes THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE look like MY LITTLE PONY.

It sounds vile, but even so this bit from the Wiki entry made me laugh out loud:  Miloš jams his erect penis into the man's empty eye socket, killing him.

Yes, I mentioned on twitter that the plot synopsis sounds so over the top and gruesome it made me think of THE ARISTOCRATS, like the writer/director just sat around and tried to come up with the sickest things imaginable, and then put them into the movie.

But it does sound absolutely appalling. Not over the top in any kind of comic/schlocky sense, just vile. One of those things you'd want to unsee if you saw it.

I think I'd feel like an accessory to a crime if I watched it.

This should not tempt anyone into reading that Wiki entry who wouldn't otherwise, but:

Harry Knowles?  Hate Pit.

I was looking forward to Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, with Viggo as Sigmund Freud, but right at the moment I'm sorta reconsidering my interest in anything sexually creepy.
