Definitely looking forward to Damsels in Distress by Whit Stillman

Really? I seem to have heard rumors of its release for many years... Hmm...

It's Cannes, they boo everything there. It's like a sport. And most people seem enthusiastic enough.

yeah, after actually reading the article, and other reviews from Cannes, the headline seems a bit misleading. I don't think some people booing amidst mostly applause and glowing reviews hardly constitutes "getting booed."

though I do like imagining The Sandman tap dancing Brad Pitt off the stage.

They also gave The Beaver a 10-minute standing ovation, so I'd not put too much stock in that audience's opinion.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Is this true?

Amazing that after years of anticipation, the reaction to Malick's film is being overshadowed by this silly Von Trier flap, and that some of the reviews I've seen are favoring Melancholia as a sort of anti-Tree of Life

More on the "booing" from The Guardian's Jason Solomons, who was there:

I'm starting to think Malick has the right idea about not doing interviews

Much ado about nothing.  More fuel for the fire of my hatred of the press.

P.S. And self-important people.

P.P.S.  I watched The House of the Devil last night and found it suspenseful not at all.  It did successfully mimic movies of the period in which it is set (although the acting is far too good for it to be a truly accurate imitation), and I was pleased at the feist of the heroine at the end.  As for Greta Gerwig, I thought she overacted like crazy.

P.P.P.S. I had forgotten that I had a crush on Lars von Trier.  That press conference brought it all back.

I'd heard this before but it's nice to get confirmation.

Quote
It turns out Malick is a huge fan of "Zoolander," Stiller's 2001 send-up of fashion fabulousness — so much so that for Malick's birthday one year, Stiller dressed up as the character Derek Zoolander, made a personalized video card and sent it to the director. "I think 'Zoolander' is one of Terry's favorite movies ever," said Jack Fisk, Malick's longtime production designer, who has known him for nearly 40 years. "He watches it all the time, and he likes quoting it."
