The Mill and the Cross was released in 2010 but I'm looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

I liked it. If you are ok with dead boring films that teach you something about art and history, prepare to have your face melted. Read no irony into the previous comment. I'm serious.

This may be a good show (one can always hope), but why on earth are they calling it Prime Suspect?  Take one of the most iconic performances in the history of television by one of the Grand Dames of British Film and recreate it using Maria Bello in a funny hat?

http://www.nbc.com/prime-suspect/

This looks more like a recreation of Baretta.

Prime Suspect wasn't bad.  Then again, I can't remember whether Baretta was bad.  Unfortunately, they could call it "Maria Bello Wears Quirky Hats" and it would be an apt title.  It bears a small resemblance to the Helen Mirren masterpiece in that she's hated by her fellow detectives and relies on her father.

I don't like to pick up new shows, but I will watch a few more episodes of this one.  I cannot say the same for Person of Interest, which I caught 10 minutes of and found dreadful.  I like the guy from Lost, but he's just playing a good guy version of Ben Linus here, with significantly worse music cues.  And the other actor is wooden.

Jeremy Sisto is one of my favorite actors, but I won't be catching his new series, either.  Why watch the only 4 episodes of something?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

He might not be marketable enough. The studios might just have to go with Spike.

I'm not a fan of this show, but I'm sure this is big news to a lot of people on this board: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/02/arrested-development-back-new-episodes-movie_n_991404.html

Before this thread dies and people begin to migrate over to the 2012 thread: For those of you who contributed to this thread, what is your assessment of the movies you contributed?  Did they live up to your expectations, or were they duds?

And on this topic: Auntie Christina, is the new version of The Thing as bad as the critics are saying? Like you, I was amped for this.  It sounded like a great idea for a prequel, but it also sounds like the creators watered down the original plans.

I just finished reading Who Goes There? the novella on which all movie versions of The Thing are based.  It's a cracking yarn; I recommend it.  You can read it here.

Now I'm going to watch the Carpenter movie and maybe even the old Hawks version.

It's all Thing, all the time 'round these parts.

I had no idea the Thing films were based on a book. I saw the original Thing on TCM the other day. I could just be a Philistine, but I thought it was pretty crummy -- a B-movie with a couple cool scenes. To these eyes, the 1982 version was much, much better.

Your eyes are right.  The 1951 movie is pretty crummy.  The 1982 version is by far the best.  I'm just being a completist.
