Here's the thing about Stanhope. He really does make an effort to think about things for himself, and I believe that he has some truly original ideas and insights on certain topics. However, he's grossly undereducated on certain things. For instance, he rails against entitlement yet feels like he shouldn't be "born owing" the government money. In other words, he feels that he's entitled to the infrastructure that we take for granted and doesn't want to pay for it.
I still see him as a philosopher at his core and find him worth listening to. Although I might have to amend my prior statement to say that I disagree with about 85% of what he says. Who knows what he would be capable of if he weren't so pig-headed. I find him very similar to Patrice O'Neal in that way (whose crucifixion in the Marc Maron thread earlier this year I thought was totally unfair).
