Best song on ALL THINGS MUST PASS...what is it?
« on: August 14, 2011, 01:34:26 AM »
Was listening to this album today and was struck by just how consistently amazing it is. I tried to figure out what the strongest track was, and couldn't. Hopefully, thanks to the wonder of groupthink, we (I) may soon have our (my) answer!

I was able to narrow it down to a Top 3:
1. Run Of The Mill
2. What Is Life
3. Apple Scruffs

Note: For the purpose of space, the two versions of "Isn't It A Pity" and the entire third LP (the controversial "Apple Jam") were given just one space each. I hope this doesn't ruffle any bonnets.
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

SO HARD. I had it down to Behind That Locked Door, If Not For You, and Beware of Darkness and couldn't decide. I chose one at random.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I love Beware of Darkness, but my vote goes to Apple Jam.

It's Johnny's Birthday is one of the best things Harrison ever committed to tape. Seriously.

It's so hard to pick a favorite off this album.  This album has been in my CD player at work for months.  My vote goes to Beware of Darkness--just a beautiful song.  I also have a soft spot for What is Life because it is the first Harrison solo song I ever heard.  It was the reason I bought the album.

Usually I'd go with the slower songs but "Wah-Wah" just straight up kicks it.

I almost don't want to participate because of the sham of lumping both versions of "Isn't It A Pity" together.

The faster songs really give a sense of how the Spector sound could be successfully adapted to rock songs where it's a wall of guitars. "Wah Wah" and "What Is Life" just sound huge and amazing and are the best representatives of it. "Art of Dying" is similarly amazing and remains, in my mind, the best Bond theme song never made. How dare you.

For very best, it's close between "Let It Down" and "Beware of Darnkess" for me. I think they're both fantastic, but Beware has just a bit more emotional heft to it, so that's what I went with.

My pick for the most underrated song on the album is "I'd Have You Anytime", which I think is a perfect opener. And the best song to not make the album was "Cosmic Empire". A fully produced and performed version of that one might have been another highlight.
This may be the year I will disappear.

Shame on you all!

I thought that was a Galaxie 500 number.

"Do You Notice and Recognize Miracles?"  The title sounds like it could have been a George Harrison number.

Tough call! "Isn't it a Pity" gets my vote.

I like it a little bit more than "Art of Dying" and "Beware of Darkness."

I love the whole thing, though.
