I don't have Netflix, but I've been told that the terrific TV show Terriers is now available on Netflix Instant.

You didn't hear it from me, but using a US address and paypal (as well as a VPN  - which does cost between 8 and 11 dollars a month), you too can get Netflix streaming.

It works very well.

Funnily enough I just got hooked up with a VPN by a friend, and so now my big project is trying to get my media center (which has support for apps for Netflix, Hulu etc) to use that VPN so I can do the whole streaming thing to my whole entertainment system and not just my computer.

I don't know if anyone has made this suggestion on this thread (it's gotten pretty long, and I didn't feel like searching all the way through), but I watched "Punching the Clown" over the weekend, and really liked it.
Yes, it is a sort of "mockumentary" type thing, which has been a bit overdone (just a bit, right?), but give it a shot if you haven't seen it.  There's some good laughs in there.  And heart and stuff.

I second this recommendation.  'Punching the Clown' is very funny.

I third it! I watched it yesterday and it just killed me.
Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Harmony and Me is great too. These indie comedies are some of the funniest things goin. It also features a young Nick Offerman. Watch it damnit!

Best line in Punching The Clown: "I wanted to apologize so I sent her a singing telegram..and she fucked the singing telegram guy."

My favorite scene is probably the Batman segment.  Those kids behaving like monsters, the dudes in the car laughing at him...so low, yet so funny.

Also, "Stupid Joe".

I second Harmony And Me. I've actually watched it a couple times.

C.H.U.D. has recently become available to stream.  Just in time for the holidays, I guess.

Viva Riva! is a pretty good b-movie crime film that is notable for having been made in the Congo by a Congolese director.

If you're a Tom Hardy/Violent British Gangster stuff The Take is pretty enjoyable.  I guess it's a short mini-series? The main character is maybe the most despicable main characters I've ever seen and the story spans a shitload of time in four episodes so as far as storytelling goes it's a little lacking.  But I liked it enough to order the second disc (eps 3 and 4 are disc only).

Timecrimes (2007: Spain)

After accidentally traveling to the past, Héctor (Karra Elejalde) meets himself and triggers a series of mysterious events that lead to a shocking crime. The gripping time-travel story -- at once deeply intricate and easy to follow -- also stars Candela Fernández. Oscar-nominated short-film director Nacho Vigalondo makes his feature debut with this finely crafted sci-fi thriller.

This is a great little no-budget, small cast, mind effer that, if you buy the 'accidentally travelling in time' premise, then you're in for a treat.

Streaming.

That's a good movie group, watching a low-budget foreign language flick.  Good scifi/horror movies usually work better w/o big budgets and stars.

We've been watching a movie together, Wednesday nights, probably 40-45 times a year, for going on 20 years. Lots of fun.
