Oh, this reminds me of a pointer that might be of use to some of you. If you have a cat who drives you nuts when you're doing stuff in the kitchen, pat him/her thoroughly with your greasy/wet/otherwise sullied hands. Your cat will immediately get down to the business of cleaning off what you've deposited on him/her and leave you alone for a bit. Sure, you'll then need to wash your hands before you get back to work, but it's worth it for the respite.
I have even considered filling a spray bottle with some kind of greasy liquid--or perhaps the water drained from tuna fish--to spray on my cats to distract them from harassing me when I'm doing something tempting in the kitchen. (Oh, what I would give sometimes for kitchen doors.)
