Cronut
« on: November 12, 2013, 05:43:18 PM »
I just had an LA cronut (no waiting) and cannot in good conscience recommend it. It is the single heaviest thing I have ever eaten.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Where did you get it? I've only had the ones from DK in Santa Monica. Thought they were okay, certainly not $5 good.

I think the heaviest food I've ever eaten was an Apple Cider Donut Muffin. Way, way dense! I'm curious to try a cronut!
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

La Provence on Olympic. I had the cinnamon one, it was also $5. It tasted pretty good but not amazing (I like their other desserts - they have a cookie about as big as your head).

Ugh, it's been 4 hours and the feeling of being stuffed is still there.

By comparison, I had three Krispy Kremes and a bottle of milk in Raleigh last week and felt light as a feather.

I've heard that place is good, I've never been. I'm happy with a regular donut, the cronuts were an interesting novelty but not much more than that for me.

It's really good, especially to be a cafe in a two-story strip mall.

It turns out I was sick yesterday, so the cronut was not *entirely* to blame. But it still wasn't as good as a Krispy Kreme.

I had one on Abbott Kinney in Venice (forget the name of the place), and one at SemiSweet downtown.  The one at SemiSweet was way better, so maybe the New York ones merit the hype (I still doubt it), but both were blown away by a cherry-cheese danish I ate up in Solvang.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I love how, in the latter, latter days this board has finally become a gathering place for LA hipster douchebags talking about things and places the rest of the country doesn't know about.

Really? I wouldn't think that a danish in Solvang would be that special. I didn't know that a danish could be that great, even in a Danish themeland like Solvang. The big buckets of sugar cookies are good, though.

Haha, yes! Where do you guys go to get your shirts crisped?

Sorry, I couldn't hear this question over the crowd at Barney's Beanery. (The WeHo location of course! What am I, an animal?… or even worse, a tourist?)

That's it, I'm having my jeans redyed - I think you can see a hint of not-blue.

You'd like them, they're like spiced hamburger in a big curved Frito with lettuce and tomatoes.

And you should try a "booreeto," which is a, it's a, lemme think, what is it like? It's like a hot dog, only instead of intestine casings it's wrapped in a flour disc called a "torteela." And instead of organ meats it's filled with all kinds of things. Sometimes including organ meats, but that's besides the point.

As much as I love the Bad Company-ing era, I will always be glad that this guy called before it existed.
