Favourite Tom Moments (Non-Scharpling & Wurster)
« on: March 05, 2015, 10:50:26 AM »
With no disrespect to Mr Wurster, what are your favourite purely Tom moments?

To start us off................

1. When No-Smoking Joe/Boring Owen called after the fall-out and how Tom would make him feel the lowest of the low - Joe/Owen's reactions were heartbreaking and seemingly quite repentant, but Tom knew exactly how to play him. Very funny.

2. Any time that Tom would pretend to be a caller (via his mobile phone?) - this happened quite a few times during, if i remember correctly, 04/05 - and ask ridiculous questions to/have conversations with another caller. I particularly loved his constant berating of Captain Jack with 'Tell us about the Barnacle Blues Band'. Always had me in stitches.

I’ve mentioned this one many, many times over the years, but it’s worth repeating here:

Tom’s call with Manny, who went by “DJ Dragon” back in his Studio 54 days. The calls ends with Tom serenading Manny with B&S’s “I Fought in a War” and “The Model.” During the call Tom claims that he once sprained Diane von Furstenberg’s wrist while arm wrestling her at Studio 54.

I should note that another great Tom moment occurs right before the Manny segment (pretty sure it immediately precedes it).

Tom “zings” Belinda and Hova claiming to be one of their young superfans. I can’t recall much of the specifics right now, but I know Tom references GG Allin.

I believe this was a different Hova call, but GOMPing Belinda/Hova's baby stands out as a stellar moment.

[ I will ignore all performer calls not-involving Wurster as not in the spirit of this thread. ]

I always enjoyed a Petey call, or really almost any call with a young person, when Tom asks/demands to speak with their parent/grandparent.

One of my favorite things that anyone's said ever is when Tom described Golden Corral as a "Contagion theme restaurant."

Tom shares Marc Maron's ability to so perfectly and concisely sum things up.

I always love the moments when Tom exposes himself a little and reflects on a sad thing in a very funny and poignant way like his story of trying to process 9/11 by buying a whole cheesecake and eating it in his car or when his basement flooded and destroyed a box literally labeled "Happy Memories".
I was the first guy in hardcore to whip people with his belt.

Oh yeah- was that what he called the "20,000 CDs under the sea" incident? (Or was that a previous flood?)

I have listened to Tom saying to that drunk caller, in maybe the 2nd or 3rd to last show, "...I hope you die", many many times.

Any story, about buffets, bullying, those are perfect.  I really loved the fake podcast Tom did where he has two mics turned on, was it called "toilet talk?"  The theme song was "closing time".

Also, when tom talks about Smash Mouth and does the "SOME--....SOME-... ok, you guys earned it, SOMEBODY ONCE"

Tom's rant at his imposter that ended with the frenzied shouting of ..... "GET OUT OF MY CHAT".

Another great Hova and Belinda moment: Tom celebrating ("THREE GENERATIONS!!") after GOMPing Hova or Belinda's mother. He had previously GOMPed them, as well as their young child.

"Not me, man."

That's my working title for the biography: Not Me, Man: The Angriest Rants of Disk Jockey Tom Scharpling.

"Hey, if that's what you think, God bless ya. Gah-ahd bless ya."
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Tom explaining to Julie Klausner the concept of Staten Island Garbage Rats.
"What is this...shaving cream!?"
Anytime Tom goes on a flight of fancy about Mike's shadowy lifestyle, including Mike impression.
Tom's Hervé Villechaize impression.
Tom's interactions with the people of his native New Jersey; world's noisiest restaurant etc!
