Title: Friends of Tom Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2009
Post by: Christina on November 11, 2009, 12:47:00 PM
Hey gang - I'm taking this bad boy over from Erika this year cause she's got a full plate, but this is basically same as last year so read on!

If you would like to participate in this year's FOT Secret Santa Gift exchange, please send an email to antichristina@ymail.com no later than 11/25 (that's two weeks from today & also the day before Thanksgiving)

Include in the email:

- FOT Username
- First and Last Name (like, what people call you in real life)
- Full address where you can receive packages
- If you don't want to receive baked goods or have dietary restrictions please include a note about that.
- Subject line: Secret Santa

The deadline for this is December 24th. Please try to have your packages in by then. If you can't, please contact me so I can contact your secret Santee and let them know so they won't be disappointed.

I haven't decided whether to pick names out of a hat or a cat, but I'll let you know what I come up with.

No price limit!

PS. If you sign up, feel free to use this thread to post your interests. Especially if you don't have a lot of posts on the site that would let people know what sorts of goodies to send you. Do not sign up just to participate in this. Part of the fun is knowing the people you're interacting with even just a little bit.

Was wondering who was going to do it this year, knowing Erika'll be busy and all.

I want to buy stuff for one of you guys, so count me in!

Yes! Everyone should participate. It's a lot of fun every year!

I won't be as busy after Sunday but I have pledged not to do any major coordination efforts in the year 2009. I AM DONE.*

*(Except for Adopting a Family via BBBS... we're doing it with work and it's another nice thing to do around the holidays! Check your local Big Brothers site to see. I'm setting it up with our co-workers.)

Everyone I know is getting poutine this year, including you if you are my Secret Santee. It does not matter how far away you live, I am going to be fedexing you some cheese curds. Get ready.

P.s. I like rock n roll records,  and not exclusively rock n roll movies and books.

I would be in if I weren't in the midst of personal (positive) turmoil at the moment.  I had a wonderful experience last year with a wonderful gift from Beth and, I hope, a decent gift to Emma.  Kudos Auntie C for taking this on.  I trust the FOT will be even bigger and better next Christmas.

Lemme just say some stuff now, based on a bit of initial hand-wringing and fretting I've gotten in initial emails from FOT, and if I can extrapolate based on my own life and what I'm picking up from you guys and all of that horseshit:

[edited out some rambling woo woo stuff from late last night - having some weird family business right now]

Please do it if you can & don't worry about $$.

Against better judgement, I'm in.

I like things and also stuff. Unlike most FOT, I don't particularly like music that features a lot of electric guitars.

And I give the BEST Christmas gifts.

Also, if Julie is my Secret Santa again I will turn this place into a carwash.

Hand-made, thrift-store and re-gifted gifts are always welcome and are probably some of the best ones out there :) This is not a time to impress with huge expensive things, but just a fun way for us all to interact over the holidays! No pressure!

More than decent and you know it.

Also, Erika has never been more wrong about anything. I am expecting gold bars wrapped in baby seals or, if TL is my secret santa, a Miata full of cash. Holiday spirit!

i really hope martin is my secret santa and julie is his because i have been pricing out car wash conversions for my condo and it is not cheap!

Also: if i could make a throw pillow embroidered with the words, "some will burn, all will pay"* for each and every one of you, i would.

IFLY people!

*SPOILER ALERT... i might actually do this! Maybe!

I'm in! I'll send you an email this weekend! If I get someone crafty, I would love something hand-made! I need to add some more wintry staples to my wardrobe, so a scarflet or something like that would be appreciated! I also love comic books and books in general -- used, new, whatever!

Finally, I can do something with those Truck Nuts Joe got me.

Just kidding, Joe, they're an original by the artist behind Scumm Force!  I'm waiting 8 years and retiring with the cash I make from them on eBay.

But please no more Truck Nuts.  Unless like 35 of you want to get together and all mail me Truck Nuts.  That would be kind of awesome.

I like anything, pretty much. Old books, music I've never heard of, baked stuff, handmade stuff, anything random = love.

EDIT: I love old things in general. Quirky old things, like antique automatons and such. I also like classy stuff- classy old movies, music, clothing.

Was soo much fun doing this last year.

Chick tracts, marzipan, and oven mitts.

After the amazing gift I got last year from Courtney I could get a twix bar this year and still be over the moon.

Reminds me, need to see if the Pharmacy Spirits have an album for sale yet.

haha, good luck with that collectors item. I've never made anything more inappropriate, for someone so distinguished. I don't know that I regret it, but boy... I can't even remember what I was thinking! Funny at the time? Maybe not even that.

Either way I'm in again, and promise to do better/equally-not-so-good this year, for another lucky FOT.

Hey thanks!

(We're recording a new full-length right now but you can nab an EP we have up on iTunes - soon we'll have a different EP on iTunes through Cunniglius Records. I'll let you know when)

I'm in again this year. Yeah, totally. I'm sending off my email now ...

I like the good musics (rock, weird foreign synth-wave, local stuff from your neighborhood, etc.) the good books (if I like Harry Crews, Will Self, Thomas Wolfe, Martin Amis & Larry Brown then I'll like ...?), and the good arts (I'm a printmaker/bookmaker by night - I like the darker stuff - death, sadness, insanity, all that crap  ha). I hope that's not toooo specific - I don't have Facebook or anything so you can't look me up and find my interests. Sorry!

I've had a rough few months so you can really get me anything and I'll be happy!

I'm gonna start putting together a gift tonight. Stoked.

Hi again guys - make sure you send your official "I'm in" w/your info to:

antichristina@ymail.com

If I haven't seen an email from you but you've said something over here I might check in with you to see if you're really in.

Oh, and if you're wondering how I'm going to assign Santas and Santees, I'm doing it a bit different than last year. I'm working up a list of all of your names. When it's time to pick, I'm going to write each of your names on a sheet of paper & spread them all over the floor of my apartment. At considerable expense to myself, I've secured the services of this lil bastard for one day:

I'm going to set him loose on top of your names, and as I get to your name on the list, whatever name he's dancing and pecking on? That's your Santee.

I hastily put my response up in the comments without really thinking that I'm fairly new to this board and the "I like everything" comments can be of little help during Secret Santas.  My top 3 interests right now are: comedy, knitting, Cricket Press art.  I would appreciate any comedy cds or dvds, yarn, or items from Cricket Press so much but please don't feel penned in.  I'm including my public Amazon wish list, if more ideas are needed.

I will now make a request. My copy of the last Scharpling and Wurster "At the Speed of Sound" has gone missing. Just vanished into thing air, or my car, which is much the same thing. Another copy of that would be more than enough for me this holiday season.

Barring that, I am weird about TV from mid 80s-mid 90s. I will totally take any random old VHS tapes off your hands (though The Wife may not be too happy about that).

I regret missing the deadline for this, but also know that this year all I can get my act together for would have been a box of shredded newspaper and a random leftover magazine. I'm happy to be your fake Sonta, Spoony. Congrats, I got you a boat.

BAH!!!  DRAT!

I knew I should've been checking the board with more regularity!

In lieu of my involvement in this year's FOT Secret Sonta, please enjoy the following link - which you've all probably already read at the AV Club or has already been posted elsewhere in the FOT board (though a cursory search of the term "chistmas shoes" and "christmas + patton" did not bring it up).  Please forgive if this is a repost...

http://www.avclub.com/articles/a-patton-oswalt-christmas,35764/ (http://www.avclub.com/articles/a-patton-oswalt-christmas,35764/)

Its relevance here is that last year I was fortunate enough to be the FOT Secret Sonta of the animator of that video.  Yet another reason I would think this is already up on the boards.

I am sad I missed the deadline.

ZOUNDS!  FIDDLESTICKS!!!

Coming from a background where that song was loved by many family members (except for my much cooler immediate family, of course) and friends, my brother, friend and I were dying when we heard this bit at the show. It was like Oswalt took every thing we had ever made fun of about that song and put it in one concise and hilarious bit.

I have whom I deem a FOT superstar and am incredibly nervewracked about what to get him/her (no hinting!). Some ideas are brewing but I really want to do a good job this year. Better than last! Oh Christmas.

And by the way, I'm a lover of comic books, movies, music, comedy, and all other neat stuff, but really, any gifts I receive will be amazing gifts! Just helping out if nobody can think of anything for me as I'm relatively quiet around these parts lately.

Even though I'm broke and had to get family gifts instead of individual gifts for everybody in my family, I still am in the Christmas spirit! It's just a fantastic time of the year... It's the same thing every year, I watch the same specials, listen to the same albums, wrap gifts that most likely won't be remembered the next year, open gifts that I won't remember were a gift, see the same lights. But, it doesn't get old and I look forward to it and enjoy it every year.

I suffered a crippling blow to my santaing today, CRIPPLING. I was reading around the boards for something, and ran across that my Santee had already acquired that which I was going to procure. When I say what it was in a few weeks, you're all going to feel my pain too. We're not talking an electric teethbrush or nuttin folks, I just got royally screwed is what happened. Sure, I'm glad that person has the thing I was going to give them, no matter the means, but man it would have been PERFECT.

What is the etiquette for these gifts?

Do you say who you are and things or is it ALL secret and you just say it's from an FOT or whatever?

You're supposed to say who it's from.

Having said that, I realized as soon as I'd sealed the box up that I'd failed to reveal myself, so I wrote my username by my return address. Hopefully the recipient notices.

Santa came early this year, bearing awesome gifts and kind words. BeTheBoy, you're the tops! Two books, one being The Big Con which I've actually been told to read and never have, and then this:

...which I had no idea even existed. What a perfectly suited gift! WFMU art is something I hold a special fondness for, both in seeing and doing, and this book in particular opens a whole new dimension of that.So thank you! Now I just have to wait until this book about con men helps me grift one of my drawings into the next WFMU art book, and I'm set for life.

Since it looks like I'm the first one to get theirs, I'd also like to add my thanks for the bonus gift of efficiency!

Dear Secret Santa: I left home for winter break earlier than I expected to, and I'll be in Toronto longer than I originally thought I'd be, too, so you've got some extra time. I'm not home until Jan. 3rd!

By that same token, if you send me something and I haven't posted about it, it's probably not because I'm a totally insensitive jerk.

I gave in to temptation and opened it up! I'm glad I did, because there were delicious holiday cookies! Also: a package of pens, several composition notebooks, and a couple of wacky packages stickers! The cookies are going in my tummy, and the school supplies are going with me to Chapel Hill.

Thank you, Keith!

Awesome gifts Laurie! I have the Conan approved 2010 Extraordinary Chickens calender hanging already. The Mr. T talking pocket keychain has been used many times already- I don't think my wife likes that one. That is so going to work with me on Thursday.  And of course Wildwood, NJ which I'll watch sometime this week. Thanks!

I don't think my secret santa ever posts on the board, and if she does I have no idea what her handle is, but just in case: Thanks, Sarah (not the one everyone knows) for the 21,000 years of happiness (she understands).

my secret santee should receive their gift(s) closer to christmas day.  my gift is the result of hard labor in which my hands and wrists are screaming in arthritic pain in order to finish my projects on time.

having said all that, if you dont enjoy this gift, you're dead to me.

PS- i should also mention that there are some purchased items in there as well and so...i'm only half responsible if you hate your gift.

Dear Secret Santee,

i have good news and bad news.

good news: look forward to your gift being sent out on saturday.

bad news: you'll be missing ONE item.  unfortunately, my hands and wrists can't take the crippling effort needed in order to finish your gift on time.  however...

more good news: ...you'll be receiving 80% of your gift on time.  not to mention, once the missing piece is complete, you won't regret it.  I PROMISE IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT.

again, apologies and check your mail daily next week!

I just got mine today! Thanks, Erech! This is a man who is paying attention. I mentioned my interest in home brewing in a thread months ago, and bam! he sends me the Complete Joy of Home Brewing.

It's the next logical step for me in my exploration of all things fermented. I've gotten pretty good at bread, and dipped my toes into kim chi, and next up is beer. I'm really looking forward to getting into this.

I sent out my santee's package a few days ago. According to my package tracking, it's reached the USA. It's in the USPS's hands now.

Hard as this is to believe, I think you are supposed to (try to) eat the kim chi, though granted, it probably will kill any sort of toe fungus it touches when you're dipping.

Hey, I wanted to say -

I'm not sure if this was clear or not, but if you've received your gift and there's no indication who your SS is, post something here along the lines of 'hey thanks, got the prezzie etc etc' so the SS knows it arrived ...

If you haven't sent it yet for whatever reason, put your name on it/in it so the recipient knows!

If you want contact info for your SS, since not all of them post here, let me know & I'll send it on ...

Merry Happy!

Dear Secret Santee,

Unfortunately a number of things occurred very rapidly this weekend, preventing me from sending your package.  go ahead, have a seat:

friday, long story short, my sister-in-law made some very serious and stupid decisions; needless to say, this prevented me from visiting the post office on saturday as we made arrangements for her to get to the hospital.  once that was taken care of, her dog went into labor and i spent hours taking care of her dog, helping with a delivery (my first time!), and trying to figure out what to do with a stillborn pup* at eleven o'clock at nite.

since the post office is closed on sundays and i work the same hours as the post office, i am sad to say you will not receive your package (which is collecting dust on my kitchen table) pre-christmas.  please forgive me, i could not help these circumstances.  i am going to attempt to bring the package with me to AZ when i visit my family this week where i know i will have the time to drop it off and send it on its way.

also, apologies to everyone, i had no intention of killing the thread with my(?) dirty laundry.  i felt it was necessary to inform my Secret Santee that he/she was not forgotten IN THE SLIGHTEST and that getting this package to the post office has caused tremendous stress- in a good way- because i really think my secret santee is going to like their gift.**

thanks everyone,
IABVT

**god, i hope so.

I sent my main gift out today -- I hope it gets to my santee by X-mas eve. I think my santee will get an earlier present straight from the warehouse of the Mike Show's most prominent call-in guest (and a noted film director). So if you received something from him and you can't tell who it was from, you'll be getting something else, too.

Nobody should feel bad about not getting their gift out on time, and anyone that gives them grief for it is a mutant who deserves no gifts from anybody. It reminds me of the horrible, bitter old ladies who sit in the lunch room where I work and complain during their breaks. Lately it's been complaints about last year's Christmas gifts from relatives who should've bought them bigger gifts because "they're worth boocoo* bucks." It makes me ill.

I'm not saying any FOT participating in this gift exchange would engage in such ugly behavior, which is why I don't think anyone should feel bad about getting their stuff out late.

* - I know this is the incorrect spelling, but I've used it because this is how said ladies would spell it if they wrote it out

I like getting stuff late; it allows me to extend the holiday a little longer. For example my birthday is in June but for a while my mother would send me a gift and call me in October, there are 6 kids in the family so it was easy to confuse who was born when (even though I was the oldest and probably the best kid of the bunch). I started to look forward to my October cards because it was like having another birthday. I was actually disapointed when she finally realized what she had done and resumed my actual June birthday.

What everybody said.

Also, I forgot to elaborate, but there are a number of FOTs that have written for me to get into contact with their recipient RE lateness for whatever reason. They're worried about their recipient thinking they're unloved!

I'm totally happy to do that, believe me, but I also thought it warranted a public mention.

Apparently the post office just wanted to dump a whole bunch of packages on my front steps today because I got my missing piece, plus part of the mini-marathon premium, the last of my Merge SCORE! series, and Freak Wharf.

Sent out the 2nd half of my gift today, since it's not a secret who my sanatee is, I will just say this: suck it Bryan for living in Canada. PO said it would take 10-14 days depending on the load, I didn't even have any kind of faster option sans going crazy overnight expensive with the federal expresses or something.

Anyways, I'm hoping they're working extra hard to get it there faster, but probably not going to happen before FRIDAY. Surprised this turned out the way it did, getting the 1st box to you before the 2nd, wouldn't have bet on that. SORRY bud.

I made a promise earlier that anyone left out of the Secret Santa process could get a little end-of-year gift from me if you like. (and really even if you ARE in.) Just send me a mailing address, I will get on it as soon as I can. It will be a miniature version of my post two or three messages back.

I got my gift from wwwes today - DVDs of The Wrong Guy and Xavier: Renegade Angel. I haven't seen either but will look forward to watching over Christmas break. I have thanked him privately via message, but I want to take this opportunity to thank him publicly.

Also, thanks to Auntie Christina for taking over the administration of the Secret Santa project. It's a lot of work for very little appreciation, so I want to send a little her way.

Happy December holiday to everybody!

Sorry FOT, all of you lose, because my Secret Santa was the legendary and beloved Martin from Sweden. He sent lovely candies for the kids, something scary called hard salt licorice that he more or less promised no non-Swedes could handle (I can't wait to make them try it,) cool and funky soap made from recycled deep-fry grease by friends of his, a rock-paper-scissors automaton in the form of a book, and best of all, a copy of his documentary. Do you understand? I received a personal copy of a film from the film's director!

Wins all around for the fk family. Best December Resting Period to all of you. Thanks Martin!

(my favorite combination- laughter and art!)
aaaaaaaaalso that awesome bit of music he posted earlier. I can't wait to delve into this!

Woah, xmas eve FOTery!

Ben got me all kinds of crazy nerdy stuff, including gummy candies in languages I do not understand! MEIN FROSCHLI I ♥? We'll find out!

Best part, instead of packing peanuts, he used about 8 million mini Peanut Chews to pad the stuff - I'm still giggling about that.

I'll get pics up later of all my stuff - thanks BEN!

I don't think I have ever eaten one of these before today. Philly Boy Roy is a scumbag.

MEIN FROSCHLI! I want a shirt of that now.

"Science Magnets" - ridiculous. And a drinking bird, that's going to be fun tonight.

Some kind of Mego Mister Mxyzptlk - what goofy way can I plot to trick him into saying his name backwards this year...?

I like comics, this should be informative.

Already at home on my nerd shelf next to a bunch of other Cap'n A crap.

Ben, you did it buddy. Thanks!

Thanks Jbissel!  I don't have any of the stuff from the CD full of albums you sent, I've been listening and loving the Fire on Fire a lot today, and can't wait to check the rest of it, the Betty Davis albums in particular.  Also, a Joanna Newsom live dvd, PFT's Freak Wharf, a Cookin' With Coolio cookbook (!which is highly entertaining just to read through, can't wait to try some of the recipes out!), Milwaukee Brewers baseball cards, and of course a twix bar!

Thanks so much!

I haven't got mine yet because all of our packages are being held until next week at the theatre. So, if you had me, please don't post what you got me but I'd love to know who it was. That would be enough of a present until I actually get to open it. :)

Oh, yes, let me amend ... if you haven't privately exchanged thankses and all that and talked to your Santa/Santee offline ... don't post yet! There are a handful of packages probably waiting out there still.

Only after the surprise has sprung ...

Good, I knew exactly what I was going to give my SS and was hoping it would be somebody who hadn't seen it before but even if it were it's the collectors edition in the tin zippo can instead of the cardboard box it comes in now. But, I'm glad it will be a first watch for you.

Wow, my gift just arrived in time to ring in the new year. It's a bunch of records from VA/DC indie bands from back in the day (faraquet, D-Plan, Fugazi, the Vehicle Birth) oh and Tortoise and Peter Tosh - Legalize It. I'm gonna have to go through them all more carefully, but this will give me loads of listening pleasure.  Who is this from, Barry Egan? Muchas Gracias.

I made the mistake of bringing the soda to my parents house on the 25th so the non-tofurkey ones have already been consumed.  But I still have the full slate of tofurkey at my disposal ...

Jason, I'm glad you liked it.  I had a lot of trouble picking something.  When I asked you about sending you a thank-you gift, I was trying to get some hints.  Sorry it was late.

Courtney, oh my holy hell.  Your gift was amazing.  I'm on vacation this week, but I'm wearing the tie to church next week.  Usually I don't wear ties that Jeeves wouldn't approve of, but that was too amazing.  I haven't listened to all the music yet, but it looks great.  I love learning about local music.  That hand-made book is beautiful.  All I can say I thank-you.

My Secret Santa present arrived to me today! Like I said, our packages and mail were held as we took our vacation and I got to open it this morning.  My AWESOME SS, hugel, sent me:

(http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5597/fotss.jpg) (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/fotss.jpg/)

My Custom Van by Michael Ian Black
Visioneers on DVD
2 45's
-Las Palabras. Mariposas/Un Momento
-Ted Leo and The Pharmacists. "Rock N Roll Dreams'll Come Through"/Zach Galifianiakis. "Up In Them Guts"
Booyah the Oblitorator comic 175/200
Archivalist Care Package 2009
a Carmax Keychain
4 stickers (3 FOT and 1 UCB)
OBOY postcard

and last, but not least, my very own "Newbridge is for lovers" t-shirt.

I think I can fairly say that I'm overwhelmed by this present, seeing as how he hit the bar, raised the bar, then broke the bar. IFLY, hugel. And AuntieChristina for organizing this. So amazing.  :D :D :D

I'm getting really worried about mine - I sent it out a little late (a few days before Christmas), but I paid for the faster shipping and it still hasn't reached my Sanatee. So if you've got a delinquent secret santa, don't worry! It might be me, and my country's weird postal service might be to blame.

@slackmistress' mom celebrates Russian Orthodox Christmas so she's all about the epiphany or at least using hat as an excuse to have a party.

Hmm... If anyone reading has wondered why I haven't said thanks or anything yet - I just got back to my apartment this weekend and unfortunately forgot my mail key at my folks' place.  A replacement is on the way, and I will hopefully get my thanks out ASAP.

I'm totally going to erase this message when I get my key back so there's no record of me being so dumb.

Just so everyone knows, there are a few circuits that haven't been completed due to weather, borders, illnesses, errant & missing deliveries, and so forth ... I'm helping convey msgs back and forth between Santas and Santees.

Every one of you who has the particular issue has been turning yourself inside out to make sure your fellow FOT doesn't feel neglected, and every one of you who is still waiting has been really swell about understanding ...

So, um, yeah. We should probably hook that up to a turbine. I thought you all should know.

After a whirlwind trip through customs my gift arrived today and I have to say it was totally worth waiting for.  Courtesy of my FOT Secret Santa the esteemed Emma From Toronto I am now the proud owner of two fabulous wind up robots.  (There are few things I like more than windup robots. If you have a problem with windup robots, you have a  problem with me and also with my mother who was a robot.) In addition the box featured a hand drawn Robot Christmas wish, which explains why Emma got some funny looks from the post office.  Thank you, thank you, thank you Emma, you are full of goodness.

Also, thank you Auntie Christina for putting all of this together and thank you Friends of Tom for being so great.

Hey Erech - I just now opened up this box. It had been languishing at the post office for a few days because I didn't have time to go pick it up. It didn't get seized by customs, and I'm REALLY looking forward to sucking back this great big, strong beer.

Also included: a grab bag of weird and wonderful items. I got robots, too, betheboy! Plus, as an extra bonus, the box it all came in had a dick drawn on it. Ain't Christmas wonderful?

Thanks, Erech!

Holy smokes, I cleaned up.

Pete graced me with not one, not two, but THREE issues of Michael Kupperman's Tales Designed to Thrizzle, which I've glance at before and loved, but never got around to actually purchasing.  So great.

"Is that all?" you might ask.  Well, it would certainly be enough, but NO!  It is not all!!!

Pete also gave me Matt Kindt's Super Spy and 3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man.  Great, great stuff.  Deep and rich and everything grown-up graphic novels should be.

"Well, that's quite a collection," you might say.  You would say that and you would be right.  But Pete is not done yet, folks!

My package also included DVDs of Brad Bird's Iron Giant and Sir Norm MacDonald's Dirty Work.   Mind-bogglingly incongruous when paired?  Welcome additions to my home video library?  Yes and yes.

And the whole shebang came with a handwritten letter making it all the more special.

Thank you so much, Pete.  You rock the most.  I love it all.  Happy New Year to you and yours.

Some of us live a gazillion miles away, you cruel inhumans.

If someone in/around the great Garden State would be willing to coordinate, I have a suggestion for how to remedy this.

A few weeks before the proposed FOT Christmas in July, we organize Secret Santa and pair attendees with those of us restricted from attending due to extended geographic proximity.  Make the deadline a week before the event to ensure everyone has their gift prior to the gathering.  I'll volunteer to do the pairing if someone attending could be my point person in Jersey "on the ground," as it were.

Then, if we wanted to really get geeky, we could somehow synchronize it so that those at the gathering open their gifts at the same time as those of us out here in the fly-over States, using the chat to correspond.

Two problems I see with this idea are 1.) it sorta takes the wind out of the "opening gifts in person" thing and 2.) I'm not sure what the ratio of attendees to out-of-towners would be.  But it would be a way for those of us who can't attend to participate and be there in spirit.  Also, gifts!

Just spitballin' here. Might be more of a hassle than it's worth.  I've been known to overreach (see: my failed FOT Jazz Fart'appella project).

Whaddaya guys think?

If this did happen, and money was no object, we should have different monitors for people who weren't able to be there to skype in and talk to attendees in person. Then we could all see them opening the present. I tend to overreach, too.

Looking dapper in the New Year!

Thanks Megan!

You are very welcome, sir.  Let me know when phase two hits ya.  I was very happy to get someone I was friends with in the real world so I could float ideas by Mrs. Spoony.

As for my gift, I got a book I already owned by the lovely Geoff Johnston.  It was extremely thoughtful and appreciated.  I was able to return to Amazon for a credit and with the help of another less secret Santa, I was able to get: The Office UK boxset (the guilt of owning a pirated version was wearing me down), Season One of I'm Alan Partridge, and Robyn Hitchcock's live dvd/cd set of I Often Dream of Trains concert in NYC (I was in the audience!).  Maybe my best Amazon haul ever and I owe a great deal of it to Geoff.

I only bought one other gift (first five seasons of Monk for my mom) this year due to economics/time crunch/just not enjoying buying gifts anymore.  But this was extremely fun and I am glad we have this community.  I look forward to being more active in 2010.

I haven't heard from my santee, but I'm guessing the gift got there because [regrettably] I sent it last week with next-day air. I hope you got it, santee!

my Secret Santa was KTB, which was christmas in itself.

can we re-open FOTChan with the Secret FOT Crush thread?
thanks again, KTB!

You're Welcome! Glad it all finally arrived.

I hope that you post some pics of you wearing the Mike Show shirt at some late night illegal underground knife fight. It would be fitting.

now that i think about it, with Mike trying on his new persona- The White Knight- i might have to find a church and get baptized in it.

Just saw this!  So glad you liked it.

Yeah about 4 emails later (and I can see that he's logged on somewhat frequently) I'm pretty pissed that my giftee isn't getting back to me to at least let me know that he received his gift. Can't help it. It just kind of sucks.

Yeah, I found out recently that 2 people never received their gifts - in one case, I had been emailing the delinquent giver a few times about it on the recipient's behalf, since enough time had passed that the recipient was rightfully wondering what was up. In the other case, which I just found out about, that person emailed the would-be recipient again on a couple of occasions, "it's coming, it's coming" and then radio silence.

Life is hard, and sometimes shit comes up, but One should not sign up for a thing, and then leave somebody hanging with no explanation.
